Seventy Studios is a film and television production company based in Redmond Bay, Roregon, in the Robloxia. It was founded in 1979 by longtime film producer Martin Feene and director Caleb R. Strowman, and became well known in the 1990s and early 2000s for its innovative use of practical effects, high-concept scripts, and long-term actor-director collaborations. The company initially focused on low-budget thrillers and action features before branching into historical fiction, science-fiction epics, and horror-adventure films.
In 2001, it signed a distribution agreement with Universal Pictures, allowing its productions to reach a global audience. Seventy Studios is known for its unique approach to storytelling, often blending historical or political events with fictional and supernatural elements. The company maintains satellite offices in Pacifico, Blackville, Sacramento and Bloxburg. Its studio lot, known as Studio Lot 7, includes a full-sized backlot town, interior soundstages, and editing bays, and has become a tourist attraction since 2013.
In 2003, the studio gained international attention with the release of Guts and Blackpowder, a large-scale historical horror film set during the Napoleonic Wars. The movie was one of the most expensive productions ever filmed in Robloxia at the time, with a reported budget of 500 million robux. Directed by Rick West and starring Luna Hives, Boris Claus, and Eric Claymore, the film was praised for its intense atmosphere and practical effects. A partial leak of the film’s first 15 minutes by former employee Anton Denton made headlines shortly before its release. Despite the controversy, Guts and Blackpowder became a major commercial success and is often cited as the turning point in the studio's evolution from a mid-tier production house to a major creative force. In 2005, Seventy Studios opened a second production unit called S70X Films, which focused on experimental filmmaking, including surreal horror, art-house dramas, and digital-only features.
Seventy Studios has also played a role in promoting emerging talent. In the 2010s, it was one of the first companies to support the work of new directors such as Mira Feldstone, Julius Rowe, and Adrik Helms, whose early work went on to win critical acclaim at regional film festivals like the Bloxican City Film Exhibition and the Greendale International Screen Forum. In 2017, the company launched the Seventy Labs Initiative, a training program for young writers and cinematographers, with partnerships involving Techscope Visual FX, North Driftwood Film School, and the Bloxford Guild of Film Arts. Although Seventy Studios remains independently run, it entered a joint content development agreement with Nexacorp in 2019 to develop serialized streaming content for platforms such as BoxStream and RBTV Max. As of 2025, the company is led by CEO Fletcher Rowman, with a board that includes longtime industry figures and creative executives. Its motto, "History Through Light," continues to define its legacy as a studio that tells bold and unconventional stories.
History
Seventy Studios was founded in the spring of 1979 in Redmond Bay, Roregon, by independent film producer Martin Feene and director Caleb R. Strowman, both of whom had previously worked together on small television commercials and educational short films in the late 1970s. The company’s original headquarters was located inside a converted paper mill near the Roregon Soundfront Industrial Area. Its first official production was a crime thriller titled Ninety-Nine and Falling (1986), which gained limited regional success but helped the studio secure private investors. In 1989 the company released Midwest Cowboys, staring Max Eisenberry, Nathan Davidson, Leslie Kennedy, and Sharon Matthews. The film is about two self-identified cowboys from Bloxas who move to Bloxhicago and attempt to adapt to city life. The movie was a cultural phenomenon, earning six Oscar nominations and currently sitting at an impressive 98% on Rotten Eggs and is one of the best films in the studio’s history. During the late 1980s and early 1990s, the company produced a series of low-budget action and mystery films, often distributed via late-night television or limited VHS releases. It wasn’t until the 1991 cult success of Blightview Street—a psychological horror film set in fictional Roanboro—that Seventy Studios began gaining attention from major distributors. The film, directed by Strowman himself, was later selected for screening at the Elmwood Springs Film Assembly and introduced the company to larger production circles around western Robloxia.
Throughout the 1990s, Seventy Studios built a reputation for focusing on grounded, visually creative storytelling that avoided overuse of digital effects. The company released Men in Suits starting Tommy Martin and Demarcus Taylor in February of 1995. The film is about two undercover agents and how despite their chaotic behavior they finally get the criminal at the end at a huge party. The was a success having a 88% on Rotten Eggs and being a cult classic today. In 1998, the company completed construction on its permanent studio lot, Studio Lot 7, located in the hills west of Redmond Bay near Highway 77. The studio lot would eventually host many of the company’s future productions and become a destination for film students and tourists alike. The studio’s turning point came with the signing of a multi-film distribution agreement with Universal Pictures in 2001, which led to increased budgets and wider theatrical releases. By 2003, Seventy Studios released Guts and Blackpowder, which was seen as its breakout international success, leading to record box office numbers across Robloxia, Bloxanada, and the Telamon Islands. The film’s production helped train a new generation of set designers, stunt directors, and historical consultants. In 2007 the company along Davidson Media Broadcast Network formed Ret, a free-to-air television network that plays mostly classic movies and tv shows from the company’s media library and other films from other studios media libraries. In November of 2021 the company launched Ret plus a free streaming platform. The service provides cord-cutters with access to a live stream of their local RET broadcasting feed. In the years that followed, the studio formed long-term creative partnerships with directors like Hal Winton, Sela Paire, and Rick West, and helped launch the careers of actors such as Dale Fridays, Luna Hives, and Boris Yip. By 2025, Seventy Studios had produced more than 60 theatrical films and over 100 hours of television content.
Studio facilities
Seventy Studios operates its main production complex in Redmond Bay, Roregon, a sprawling 70-acre lot known as Studio Lot 7. Originally built in 1986 on what used to be an abandoned industrial estate, the lot has since expanded to include twelve indoor soundstages, five permanent exterior backlot sets, costume workshops, post-production houses, and administrative offices. A full-scale backlot replica of a 19th-century Robloxian village, nicknamed "Old Hollow", is often used in period films and was first constructed for the 2003 production of Guts and Blackpowder. Other standing sets include a downtown city block, a Telamon Northwest logging town, and a dystopian urban zone last featured in the 2021 film Days of Black Ribbon. In 2013, following the release of Whisper Valley, Seventy opened the lot to limited public tours, drawing thousands of visitors annually. Guided tours typically include behind-the-scenes looks at filming locations, editing bays, prop vaults, and the iconic Lot 7 Water Tower.
In addition to the Redmond Bay headquarters, the company maintains satellite production hubs in Pacifico, Blackville, and Bloxburg, often used for location shoots or overflow projects during peak production periods. A dedicated digital post-production suite, called S70 Post, is located in the north district of Bloxburg and includes collaboration bays for visual effects partners such as Techscope Visual FX and BluePixel Studios. The company also leases land in specific areas of Driftwood County for rural and mountain-based shoots. In 2018, Seventy Studios invested R$90 million into sustainability upgrades across all its facilities, including solar panel integration, eco-cooling systems, and green screen recycling programs.
