History
Driftwood County was established in 1841 after being separated from Westfield County, due to being very large, making administration difficult. The area was originally inhabited by different tribes like the Bloxxolians and the Skarnak. The place was an area of agriculture and timber in its early years having a large amount of huge timber companies like Southern Timber Company. These timber and logging companies were mainly supported by the then-operating Driftwood County Railway. The county grew rapidly during the 1900s as timber continued to rise. South City, the county seat, developed as a trading center. During the mid 1940s, environmental awareness rose as significant portions of the forest were gone. This led to areas being protected and the eventual closure of a bunch of timber companies and a downfall in economy. Over the years, Driftwood County had rose in tourism, particularly around the 1980s and 1990s due to having the North Bloxifornian Forest, the largest forest in the state.
