The third season of the Lovely World animated television series New World (known as simply Lovely World and shorten to Lovely World: NW), created by John Collins was co-produced by Starlight Productions and animated by Cinebolt Productions and Brightmyth Film Studios. In contrast to the first two seasons, this one is the last in the series to be based on the first and second books of the same name; from season four onward, the series would now begin to use original concepts and ideas. The season originally began broadcasting both in the United States on Children's Avast Television and in Bloxanada on Avast, respectively on November 17, 2012, and ended on November 2, 2013, containing 51 episodes and one special.
The series follows the adventures of Edward, the main character, who is sent to an in-digital world and must survive while creating his own "world". Throughout the show, Edward makes friends with Michael, Leo, and Kamila, and together they set out on a global adventure to meet new people and discover more about the process of building their world. In this season, there are a total of three main "storylines"; the first focuses on Edward's attempt to return to his friends; the second follows the new group as they establish their first "world" in the plains, juggling their new objectives and gathering materials for their constructions; and the third follows them as they engage in combat with "Z," also known as Zachary, and attempt to return home afterward. A another and fourth "storyline" in the middle in the second "storyline" is focused on Edward as he is challenged to battle "Z" and deals with his mental breakdowns, following the death of his two dogs.
The season, like the previous two in the series, was developed by the "Original Series" production crew. This was John's final season to work as the showrunner as he would formally departed the show to focus on his new commitment to creating more original books, and Cody Campbell took over as showrunner. Because of its emotional impact, compelling narratives, voice acting, action sequences, animation, writing, character development, and directing, the third season of the show received high praise from critics and is frequently regarded as one of the greatest of the whole run.
Production
When the fourth season premiered in November 2013, Avast Television started retitling the preceding three seasons in January 2014. Lovely World: The Third Season was the original title at the time, and it was only available on DVDs. The corporation intended to merge the first five seasons into a new series dubbed the Original Series, which would be revealed with the confirmation of the Beta Series, which is why the season was renamed Lovely World: New World in 2016.
Development
Executives at Avast Television discussed developing a third season, even though the company had previously said in March 2011 that a second season was in development. Since the two books served as the basis for the television program, it was initially intended for the series to run for just two seasons, matching the length of the two books. But after the first season's enormous critical success, it was revealed that John and Avast Television had started working on a third season for the show. This season would be based on the two books, but it would probably be the last to be based on the books. The Bloxburg Times revealed in September 2011 that the crew members had been "saw discussing about news episode for a next season" and that the third season was rumored to be under production at the studio. John responded, "We will confirm the season when the time is right," when questioned about the upcoming one. We are now working on the second season, and we will talk about it when the time comes.
On November 26, 2011, a week after the premiere of the first episode of the second season on television, the third season was formally announced to be in development. Two new animation studios, Cinebolt Productions and Brightmyth Film Studios, would replace Starlight Productions as the primary studio and producer of the series, with the Starlight studio being switched as a co-producer. The announcement was made by the company on October 1, 2012, one month before the third season was broadcast. The second "storyline" development was the focus of the studio shift that occurred in July 2012. Significant production delays were experienced, which initially caused the production team to reschedule multiple episodes. Nevertheless, the team managed to complete the work despite the setbacks and the delays were reversed back.
Writing
There are three primary "storylines" in all in this season: the first centers on Edward's quest to get back to his friends; the second tracks the new group as they create their first "world" in the plains, balancing their new goals with the gathering of building materials; and the third tracks them as they fight "Z," also known as Zachary, and try to escape afterwards. Another and fourth alternate "storyline" that takes place in the midst of the second "storyline" centers on Edward's struggles with dealing with "Z" and his mental breakdowns after the deaths of his two pets.
From February 4, 2012, during the second season's production, to May 9, 2013, during the fourth season's development, writing for the season officially finished after a year and a half. John Collins, who started working on the first few episode scripts in January 2012, wrote the "storylines" for this season in its entirety. He sought to give the show a "far darker tone," in contrast to the first two seasons before it. Originally conceived within the animation studio, the writing team sought to offer Edward character development and shift the tone of the show to a darker one, focusing on concepts like grief and death. They also wanted to introduced much more extreme action scenes.
Although the writing team decided to keep one of Edward's dogs instead of killing off the cat, as writer Matthew Anderson put it, "that dog was a part of Edward's story since the very first season and they had grown together, up until that particular moment." A number of episodes, including "Final Day" and "The Most Anger, Fear and Stress that I Ever Felt," underwent significant revisions to ensure that the story made sense and that it addressed the topic at hand. The latter took more than nine months to complete because the writers wanted to concentrate on death, betryal, and Edward's emerging character while keeping the topic as straightforward as possible. The writing team decided to focus on the topic they were aiming for, and during writing it was confirmed that screenwriter Lewis Rose—who was well-known for his appearance on Saturday Bloxy-Night Live—and Raymond S. Bloxsi—who was well-known for working on Disney's 2012 animated film and Key-Gan-Mike Key—would be writing several episodes. Each of the three worked on two separate episodes, two of which were related to the main plots and one of which was related to the fourth.
