The second season of the Lovely World animated series Lovely World: the Beginning (known as simply Lovely World and titled as Lovely World: The Background), began broadcasting in the United States on Children's Avast Television and in Bloxanada on Avast, respectively on November 19, 2011, and ended on November 3, 2012. Produced by Starlight Productions, it is loosely based by the first and second books with the same name. Like the rest of the series, it follows the adventures of Edward, the main character, who is sent to an in-digital world and must survive while creating his own "world". Later on, Edward makes friends with Michael, Leo, and Kamila, and together they set out on a global adventure to meet new people and discover more about the process of building their world. The season was developed by the "Original Series" production crew, with the scripts written by Jake Nicholson, Aidan Cooper, Matthew Anderson, Blake Thomson, Adam Perry, Charlie Fisher, Graham Reynolds and Billy Mcconnell.

There are four "storylines" in this season: the first centers on Edward, John, and Michael as they attempt to acclimate Kamila, a new-spawned girl to the new world; the second centers on the group residing in the village and planing their aspirations and dreams for the near-future; the third centers on the newly formed group as they set out for their village and formally begin their adventure on their own, hoping to create their own world this time; and the fourth and final centers on them battling a villain named Zachary (named as "Z" in the show), who wants to fully take over Edward's Lovely World and in the hopes of controlling the entire in-digital planet by "killing" everyone. A film, based on this season and a retelling of episodes 30 to 50, titled The Second Lovely World Movie! was aired on television on November 10, 2012.

Production

Background

Avast Television began retitling the first three seasons starting in January 2014, when the fourth season was aired for the first time in November of 2013; the second season at that time was dubbed Lovely World: The Second Season, which was exclusively released on DVDS. The season was renamed Lovely World - The Beginning in 2016 because the business wanted to combine the previous five seasons into a new series called the Original Series, which would be announced when the Beta Series was confirmed. A typographical error in December 2015 resulted in the title being changed to Lovely World: The Background, and a pair of editors designed a "official" logo for the second season's name, without realizing the mistake. In time for the premiere of the sixth season, it was officially renamed Lovely World - The Beginning.

Development and writing

This season is divided into four "storylines": the first follows Edward, John, and Michael as they try to acclimate Kamila, a newly spawned girl, to the new world; the second follows the villagers as they plan their hopes and dreams for the near future; the third follows the newly formed group as they set out for their village and formally begin their adventure on their own, hoping to create their own world this time; and the fourth and final follows them as they battle a villain named Zachary, who wants to fully take over Edward's Lovely World and hopes to control the entire in-digital planet by "killing" everyone. Writing for the season began in April 2011 and was finished by March of the following year during the broadcast of the second season, with John working as a co-writer for the first 30 episodes, while the remaining episodes were written and drafted by Billy Burke, Theo Clarke, Skyler Mooney, Raul Sanders, and Albert Duncan. While the first season was being developed, the writing team discussed ideas for the second season, deciding to make it more about the group and introduce viewers to female characters while giving Edward and Michael "a love story." At the time, this was unusual for children's animation because there was only one male character instead of one female, so "The Flowers," the twenty-episode for the second season, was the first to feature the idea.

The female character Kamila was developed in the early stages of the show's original conception. Previously, in 2010, she served as the focus and one of the titular names for the fourth one-minute short produced as a "pilot," which was first shown in November of that same year. The episodes were written by the same writing team that also worked on the second film in the series around the same time. Because the film's production took longer than that of the previous film, the writing team was split into two writing groups, one of which worked on the episodes and the other on the film. After the film was finished in September of that year, production resumed for the second season.
