This sound was recorded by Lon Bender and Wylie Stateman on February 8, 1988. Originally a Soundelux sound effect, it debuted in Young Guns on August 12, 1988.

In 1990, The Hollywood Edge added it to The Premiere Edition Volume 1 library. After the bankruptcy of The Hollywood Edge in 2014, Sound Ideas took over to acquire it.

Today, it is commonly heard in hundreds of pieces of media.
