Biography
The Nine Inch Nails
Trent Reznor rose to fame with his band the Nine Inch Nails, and became a counter-culture icon by deconstructing the "heavy metal supermen" of the 1980s, including the superhero Doctor Manhattan and former U.S. President Richard Nixon. In 1989, his counter-cultural attitude gave him the nickname of "the dark night of anti-hero rock" by the Nova Express.
Reznor, along with his band, perform their first concert at the Phantasy Theater in Lakewood, Ohio. Following the concert, he meets a young boy named Sean Parker, who snuck backstage to meet the band and suggests that they add 'The' to the band's name. Reznor found the boy amusing, but they ultimately agree to change the name.
In December 1993, Reznor perform at Wembley Stadium in England with special guests Green Day and Suede.
In March 8, 1994, the band released their second album The Downward Spiral, which was a critical failure.
On April 28, 1995, the Nine Inch Nails held a concert at the Urban Outfitters Amphitheater in Saigon, Vietnam. Reznor, in a fit of rage, unexpectedly walks out during the show announcing that this is his final appearance.
Following his departure, Reznor found work as a sonic handyman, producing sound effects for David Lynch's Axxon N..[1]
The Manhattan Project
On November 1, 2001, Reznor reunited with the Nine Inch Nails and recorded their studio album The Manhattan Project at "The Crater" in North Wales.[1]
Reunited
In 2018, Reznor and the band reunited together in Saigon to perform the song "Hurt", which they never finished playing during their disastrous concert in 1995 to Doctor Manhattan inside of a Manhattan Booth as their way of gratitude to the superpowered being.[1]
