Originally recorded by Jimmy MacDonald for Walt Disney Productions in the Burbank, California on August 1942, it was probably originally a Disney sound effect that debuted in the Donald Duck short film called in "The Vanishing Private", on September 25, 1942, before Hanna-Barbera picked up in the fall 1958.

It's first TV show appearance in the Pixie and Dixie and Mr. Jinks episode "Jinks the Butler" on December 25, 1958.

And it's first movie appearance in the Tonylyn Productions film, Unkissed Bride, on October 12, 1966.

Along with several of the other effects in BOINK, CARTOON - PIXIE AND DIXIE BOINKS. This sound effect eventually made its way to other studios like Disney and Warner Bros. Today, it's commonly used in more than a thousand pieces of media (like The Peanuts Movie (2015), Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie (2017), Sherlock Gnomes (2018) and Space Jam: A New Legacy (2021).) It was made from a Jew's harp.
