Whelchel is a tiny town located southwest of Hazelton, northeast of Funkley, and southeast of Waubun. It consists of only a couple neighborhoods. It is also commonly paired with the neighboring community of Whelchel Valley. It only consists of one road and houses. Wadena County Road 22 passes through the town limits.
