Pukapuka language (Elo' Pukapuka, ㄝㄌㄛ ㄆㄨㄍㄚㄆㄨㄍㄚ) is a native language used on Pukapuka, Kanapaina Islands, and Ilunailalo Islands.

History

The first traces of Pukapuka language come from the 15th century. The first author writing about this language was Pilipo Eurobloxian. When Pukapuka recognized the supremacy of Great Noobian Kingdom, its language started being influenced by Oriental languages.

During the rule of Lanakila Mikala, the Telamonization of the language took place. It was still the primary language in schools, but many young people learned Telamonian and used it as their primary language or mixed it with their native one.

When the Vasaua Taika applied for the office of the president, he intended to start making the Pukapuka language extinct after winning the election. However, in the five years after he unsuccessfully ran for president, nationalists lost all elections and soon Pukapuka was restored to its state before 1943, as well as ending the extinction of the Pukapuka language.
