Interblox 755 is a proposed auxiliary interblox in the state of Roillinois. It will be an auxiliary route of Interblox 55.

History

Future southern terminus of I-755.

Future southern terminus of I-755.

In 2010, RASHTO proposed two new auxiliary routes for Interblox 55 in Roillinois. They were chosen to be I-755 and I-355. I-755 would run from Channahon to just south of Romeoville, while I-355 would run from the Southwest to the Northern Suburbs. I-355’s construction started in mid 2012, while I-755 was heavily delayed due to route planning. To avoid high costs, it was decided that I-755 would be concurrent with Ro-Route 6, just that Ro-Route 6 would need to be upgraded to highway standards.

Tolling controversy

In December 2011, RASHTO and I-Pass by Ro-PASS announced that I-755 would be tolled. However, Channahon and Romeoville residents protested claiming they didn’t want any tolls for I-755. In July 2012, RASHTO then decided for I-355 to be tolled, as RASHTO in the I-355 and I-755 project had mentioned that one of the highways shall be tolled. Residents near I-355 also protested for no tolls, though they were ignored.

Channahon Hotel demolition controversy

For the frontage road exit upgradation and some of the southern terminus exit upgradation, RASHTO will need to demolish the Channahon Hotel, as it is right next to the highway. Riots at the Ro-Route 6 and Interblox 55 have prevented the exit upgradation of these two exit upgradations.

Construction difficulties

Construction was supposed to start in late 2012. However, aside from minor road upgrades that Ro-Route 6 has received in the project, construction is yet to start and there is a specific part in Ro-Route 6 that is a bit difficult to widen and upgrade, particularly the Terminal Parkway exit.

In June 2022, some segments of Ro-Route 6 were widened to two lanes on each side, making it four lanes total, which in the future I-755 will fully have.

In July 2025, exit upgradation work on I-755’s northern terminus was completed. The northern terminus exit was initally designed to be a cloverleaf interchange, however due to high costs and the Joliet Electrical Power Plant premises limiting the size of the future cloverleaf exit, it was decided to be an at grade intersection.

Business Loop designation

On July 5, 2021, Larkin Avenue, also the Roillinois State Route 7, was designated as Interblox 755 Business Loop. The avenue now has the I-755 business loop signs.

Different design proposals

Interblox standards exemption

In July 2018, Roillinois proposed to RASHTO that the Interblox be exempt from national Interblox standards and all exits be the way they are. RASHTO took the plan into consideration but later considered it as a backup plan.

Rerouting proposals

In July 2023, Bloxhicago’s city council proposed that the Interblox could be concurrent with Interblox 55 and at its exit with I-80, merge with I-80 and end the concurrency at the Roillinois State Route 7 exit. RASHTO took this into consideration, but then denied this proposal in August 2023, as the main goal of I-755 was to give a faster connection from Channahon to Romeoville, both in the southern parts of Bloxhicago and it would not make sense for an auxiliary route to be concurrent with its parent route for a long distance.

Designation Proposals

In July 6, 2026, Roillinois Department of Transportation proposed to RASHTO that Interblox 755’s northern terminus can be designated as Interblox 755 and the Power Plant Road junction could be the temporary southern terminus until the Interblox 55 junction exit upgradation is completed. RASHTO then took this into consideration, and have announced that there is a good chance they will approve this proposal.
