The Monika Laser Incident was a catastrophic disaster at the Monika Corporation's Block Mesa facility in New Bloxico that resulted in the facility's complete destruction following the explosion of an experimental mining laser's fusion core.
Background
The incident started with a partnership between a Xenonist Union research enclave and the Neo-Japanese megacompany Monika, in a project called "Operation Sunbeam", The goal was to develop a heavy mining laser called an "Anti-Mass Disruptor Beam" Using a Pula crystal previously found in the 1950's and on-site made technology. The goal was to split a block of highly compressed Velkium, known as one of the most hardest materials in existience.
The Incident
On July 6, 2026 at 10:34PM, the AMDB is tested at Facility 65, known as "Block Mesa", initial tests ran smoothly, but when the final phase commenced, the laser underwent a severe malfunction.

Project Director: Alright everyone, lens calibration is complete, generators are online and running at required levels. Can I get confirmation that the emitter is correctly aligned to the position of the subject material?
Xeno Scientist: Affirmative, emitter tip is within 3cm of designated target

*The laser charges, but the energy keeps building up inside the core*
Xeno Scientist: Uuuh, temperatures are exceeding 10,000 degrees, plasma jets are becoming highly unstable!
Director: Alright shut it down, shut it down! Initiate emergency stop!
Scientist: Attempting shutdown!
*Alarms blare, the laser's core glows white hot*
Scientist 2: It's not shutting down! Nothing's working!
*Scientists begin to panic*
Scientist 3: All overrides are not responding!
*Female scientist screams in anguish*
Scientist 2: Fusion core is in total meltdown! 30,000 degrees! 50,000! There's too much energy buildup!
Director: Evacuate the facility, get everyone out of there!
Xeno Scientist: YO! WERE GONNA DIE! WERE BOUT TO DIEEEE!!! WERE GONNA DIEEEEEEE!!!! *screams*
*Switch to veiw of an outside CCTV camera*
*A bright flash engulfs the entire feed, followed by a massive explosion, the resulting shockwave knocks the camera offline*
After the initial explosion, a major section of Facility 65 was exploded, resulting in a small "mushroom" and shockwaves reaching up to 1600 studs. Following the detonation; an GFA outpost, assuming an facility detonation had occurred, has immediately deployed an reconnaissance and recovery team disguised as New Bloxico Emergency Services to analyse the situation.
Helicopter and OTC Transcript
Recovery Helicopter Pilot: This is CH-3 to OT-9, we have arrived at the incident location.
Outpost Traffic Controller: OT-9 to CH-3, can you analyse the incident cause?
Recovery Helicopter Pilot: We got a facility in smoke, a major section is in flames and in shambles. We have radiation from the geiger detection radar so far, minor fallout.
Outpost Traffic Controller: Roger, standby...
*The OTC goes off-comms and contacts the supervisor through a red analog phone*
Outpost Traffic Controller: Sir, we're having a major problem here.
Outpost Traffic Supervisor: Please elaborate. Was the detonation a nuclear blast?
Outpost Traffic Controller: Negative, the detonation wasn't nuclear... and it wasn't a facility detonation. Recon and Recovery Team analysed the scene and the facility is in shambles. Major Section severely damaged and in flames.
Outpost Traffic Supervisor: Are you saying the facility was under attack?
Outpost Traffic Controller: Negative sir. It seems like an explosion accident. I've sent the image from the recon system, see it yourself... Should we authorize the recovery operation?
Outpost Traffic Supervisor: Affirmative, and I'm contacting the New Bloxico Fire Brigade to assist in the recovery operation.
