Infrastructure
Road
Sebelsti has an extensive road system of around 21,000 km of official roads, however, only 59% of it is paved, with many roads being dirt, or sometimes even gravel, especially in the desert region. A 7,000 km freeway network spans the country, managed by the National Directorate of Transport. Such national routes are have a RN designation, such as RN3. There are five classes of roads according to the directorate, Classes A-D. On highway signs, the route number, as well as a circular sign with the class name, are shown. On local streets, as well as most non-major roads, the class sign isn’t required and instead is shown on street signs. Class A1 roads are roads with at least two lanes, are paved, have automatic street lighting, as well as signaled intersections and clear speed limits. A2 roads have at least four lanes, must be paved in the entirety of its route, must have signals at all major intersections, or use grade separated lanes if it is a freeway, and if it is a regular street, it must have sidewalks at least 4 meters wide, and automatic lighting in most of its route. A2 roads are the most advanced roads in the country. Below that, are B class roads. These roads are at least two lanes across, but still must be paved. These roads only are required to have 3 meter sidewalks, and can have some non signaled intersections, given that these are not major roads. These roads must have a solid line separating the two lanes. Class C roads, sometimes called collector or transfer roads, aren’t required to have sidewalks or signaled intersections, however these roads require a minimum of 5 meters of shoulder distance in some rural areas to prevent crashes. These roads cannot have bicycle lanes and are “strongly discouraged” for pedestrians. These roads can have some sections be paved with an oil-coral mixture, and “lightly unpaved” sections, with a clearly marked area between the road and the shoulder. Class D roads are the least advanced roads, and have no requirement besides being wide enough for at least one average car to drive. These roads are often not signed, and have little to no safety features such as traffic signals, railroad crossings, and well-kept signage.
