Events

Initial protests

On January 7, 2026, smaller protests began to take place across the city. The first larger protest took place the following day. Under intense pressure from the Corporatists, city authorities decided to react negatively to the protests. Police were dispatched to the initial protests to protect them, but starting on January 10, they began to disperse them en masse. Consequently, civil resistance became more widespread, and potential protesters decided to focus on nightly acts of vandalism directed against the Corporatists and the government.

Industrial District protests and riots

On January 12, unrest and protests erupted in the Industrial District. Police dispersed the rallies, threatening participants with arrest. That same day, a riot broke out in one of the neighborhoods. Five people were injured during clashes with police. Ultimately, sixteen people were arrested in connection with the riots. More protests broke out the following day, but police dispersed them more peacefully.

January 17 Massacre

Main article: January 17 Massacre

Progressives had been planning an anti-government rally throughout the protests. Ultimately, in cooperation with the Committee for the Defense of Democracy and the Independent Party, they organized an anti-government march on January 17. The march attracted an estimated five million robloxians from across the country. During the speeches, police ordered the crowd to return home and then turned their weaker weapons on the protesters. They later opened fire on the crowd. 52 robloxians were killed and 210 injured.

District Cassel riots

As news of the January 17 Massacre spread, unrest intensified. The next day, riots broke out throughout District Cassel. Crowds marched toward the Corporatist Party headquarters, where windows were smashed. A similar situation occurred at the Robloxia City Police Department headquarters. Both locations had been previously surrounded by police, who defended them with tear gas, riot shields, and batons. The Corporatist Party headquarters was set on fire, though firefighters managed to extinguish it. Many rioters were arrested. During the riots, 6 robloxians died and 39 were injured as a result of police beatings. Among the police, one died and 14 were injured. Most of the rioters decided to return to their homes by the end of the day, complying with police requests.
