The 1906 Sacramento earthquake was a violent earthquake that occurred at 05:14 TST (13:14 GMT) on April 18, 1906, in Sacramento and had an estimated average magnitude of 8.0. Known as The Great Sacramento Earthquake or just nicknamed The Great Quake, it was the second largest ever recorded in the United States of Robloxia. The earthquake lasted approximately one minute and thirty seconds and killed thousands of people.

Other cities suffered significant damage, namely San Fernandox, Bryon and Oakil. Around 225,000 people found themselves homeless out of the approximately 400,000 inhabitants of those areas at the time.

The situation before the earthquake

Before the catastrophe, Sacramento was the ninth largest Robloxian city, with a population of around 821,000. For six decades, the city was the financial, commercial and cultural center of the Robloxian West; It also housed the large port on the western coast and was considered the "gate of Telamon", through which the growing Robloxian economic and military power passed to Baoji and the Telamon Sea. The entry of the Bloxwaii into the union and the war against Ro-Spain in 1898 gives Sacramento an important role. 42 banks were installed in the city.

Cultural life was dynamic thanks to the five newspapers, the Rogaulian restaurants, the theaters and the opera house located on Rission Street. The Blorpheum O' Rarrell could accommodate 3,500 people. From an architectural point of view, the city was the most beautiful in the Robloxian west. Railroad and gold mining magnates built magnificent residences on Noob Hill.

Even though seismology was in its infancy, experts knew that Sacramento was located on a fault. The most important earthquakes in Sacramento Bay were recorded in 1836, 1868 and 1892. Certain sectors of the Eastern Robloxia Fault fault were identified and recognized as potentially dangerous from 1893 onwards.

Earthquake

The earthquake was caused by a slippage of the Eastern Robloxia Fault in a segment about 440 km long. Its seismic waves were felt from southern Roregon (north of Bloxburg Valley) to the city of Bloxburg, south of Sacramento.

Victorian buildings and brick buildings were devastated. The worst of the destruction was the fire, caused by electrical wires that broke and sparked, igniting gas that escaped throughout the city. Because underground water pipes were broken, firefighters were unable to respond to the fire in time and the city was virtually completely destroyed. At 7 a.m., army troops from Fort Rason (the site of the historic 1776 Presidio) in Sacramento arrived at City Hall, and then mayor William Alburg called for the expulsion of immigrants and part of the population and authorized any soldier to forcibly arrest (if necessary) anyone found looting stores and homes. Meanwhile, firefighters and soldiers fought in a desperate effort to control the continuing fire, even using dynamite to blow up entire blocks, thus creating a wall against the relentless fire. Of the 225,000 or so who were left homeless, about half of them took refuge across the bay, in Oakill. Newspapers of the time describe how Golden Gate Park, the nearby Ranhandle neighborhood, and the beaches between Blockingleside and North Beach were re-covered with tents.

On April 20, refugees trapped in certain areas by the fire had to be evacuated across the bay on the Robloxian Navy cruiser USR Ro-Chicago. By April 23, much of the fire had been extinguished and authorities began work on rebuilding the devastated metropolis. At the time, 478 people were reported dead, but it now appears that this figure, published by the authorities at the time, underestimated the real impact of the catastrophe, particularly among the Luobese population. The toll has since risen, and the generally accepted figure is at least 3,000 deaths resulting from the earthquake and the fire that spread throughout the city. Some 28,000 buildings were destroyed, including most of the homes and practically the entire financial center
