Transportation
Road
The Telamon City area is served by several regional freeway routes (among those being the N3, N8, N9, N16, N30, N39, N82, and N131). Additionally, the Inter-Island Bridge, which is actually a system of 3 elevated freeways linking Telamon City to the rest of the close islands and Airport Island, was completed in 2011 (the first span was constructed from 1988-1993 to relieve the tunnel between Apana Hema and the central part of the city, and the second one to Airport Island was constructed from 1997-2001 to replace a former causeway, and the third one into Central Hilo was constructed from 2007-2011). Transport by automobile is not easy within the older city centre due to narrow streets, low speeds, and on many streets in the historic core, automobiles are prohibited. To fill in this gap, motorcycles have become a popular mode of transport in Telamon City in the past few decades.
Rail
The city is served by the Telamon City Subway, along with the overground Telamon City Circular Railway which travels in a loop around the area. Also, the central railway station provides access to the TNRC intercity and regional train system.
Bus
The city lacked a centralized public bus system until 2002 when Telamon City Transportation Authority created the KTBus system. Before then, private bus companies operated throughout the city, and continue to do today. The KTBus system covers 17 routes, all except seven routes stop at Apana Kikowaena Station. The system does not cover all of the city and is supplemented by private buses and minibuses.
