History
In 1954, a plan was made to built a Metro system. Because there was already railway infrastructure in place, the track that would become Line 1 was shut down in 1955 and reopened in 1956 with things like grade crossings removed and the line was upgraded to rapid transit standards.
The first line, R1 opened on July 7, 1956 between Port and Moiwahine Street stations, on a section containing 5 stations. Soon, another 4 lines were planned.
On January 6, 1972, first BRT line was opened and named R2. It was on route from an airport to Notanoobu Street, interchanging with R1 on Port station.
R9 is sometimes called 'Millenium Line' (Telamonian: Millenium Laina), because it was opened in 2000. It is also first and now the only rubber-tyred metro line. The second one, R14, is predicted to be opened in 2031. Five years after R9 was opened, Telamon City Maglev construction ended. Its other official name is Line Ñ.
The most recent line, R13 opened on January 11, 2025. It is part of BRT system, running from Kaleikaumaka Wilama Square to Telamon City International Airport, and has 25 stations.
