South City High School is a public secondary school located in South City, North Bloxifornia. Serving students in grades 9 through 12, it is one of the largest and most well-established high schools in the southern portions of North Bloxifornia, particularly Driftwood County. The school is known for its academic programs, competitive athletics, and traditions. Founded in 1930, South City High School has played a major role in shaping the local community, helping on making ones graduate who have gone on to contribute in various fields, including business, politics, and the arts. Located at the downtown of South City, the school campus spans several acres and features modernized classroom buildings, science and technology labs, athletic facilities, and a performing arts center. The main building, constructed in the 1930s, has undergone multiple renovations to keep up with evolving educational needs. However, it still has traditional and classic designs with different sections of the school. A key highlight of the campus is the Driftwood Memorial Auditorium, named in honor of the town’s logging and railway heritage, which is considered to be an important venue for school assemblies, performances, and community events. The school also has sport facilities, including a football stadium, track and field area, and indoor gymnasium, which help in hosting sport events within the area.

History

South City High School was established on January 27, 1930 in response to the growing population of South City, during the early 20th century. As industrial and economic development rose, particularly in timber, agriculture, and railway industries, the need for a formal secondary education institution became more needed. Before its founding, local students seeking higher education had to travel to neighboring towns, often facing long commutes. The school was built at the downtown, with an initial enrollment of 250 students. The original campus consisted of a single brick building, featuring a main hall, a library, and a gym. Over the years, as South City expanded, so did the school, leading to multiple renovations and additions. By the 1950s, it had grown into the largest school in Driftwood County.

During the 1960s and 1970s, South City High School played a significant role in the community as North Bloxifornia underwent various social and economic changes. The school was a center for student activism, particularly during the Civil Rights Movement and the Environmental Preservation Act of 1958, which impacted the county's logging industry. South City High School students were among the ones wanting to protect the forests, often organizing protests and awareness campaigns. Academically, the school introduced advanced placement (AP) courses in 1971, making it one of the first in the county to offer college-level coursework. The school also expanded its athletics department. Between 2005 and 2012, the school went through major renovations.
