On May 19, 2025, the Sky Tower in Natural Disaster Islands, Roregon, United States, experienced a collapse due to a structural failure. Caused by strong winds, the collapse killed 38 people, most of whom drowned and some was crushed by the main viewing point of the tower, and injured 51 others, becoming the most deadly event to take place on the islands in its history.
Previously, the Lobby Tower, also known as Lukes Tower, was built as part of an expansion plan that had been developed since the islands' inception. Throughout the years leading up to the disaster, people noticed warning signs that the middle section connecting to the tower was slowly breaking apart, despite the fact that the owner, George Nicholson, stated that the problem would be resolved. Sky Tower was closed for repairs beginning in June 2024, a year earlier, in response to the backlash and the discovery that the tower had unflawed designs. The repairs lasted approximately five months and cost around R$4 billion, and included the installation of new windows and flooring designs.
The event drew widespread attention and a response from president Mason "Scorpio" Smith, who ordered the tower to be rebuilt, but the owner decided that a new updated tower was "not in the right time" and no tower has been built since, despite various plans. The following month, as more information became available, the event was largely overshadowed by the meteor strike.
Collapse and rescue
Hours before the collapse, several people at Sky Tower reported hearing "metal cracking" at the bottom as well as a glass panel breaking, which workers confirmed as the sounds of the middle section about to collapse. At around 1:26 p.m., minutes before the actual collapse, the tower began to lean toward the south side, though nobody noticed, except for a few. Owner George Nicholson was immediately briefed on the situation by one of the managers and because he was on another island at that time, George took a boat. Around 1:30 p.m., the middle section completely gave away, breaking into two pieces, the former crashing into the ocean and the latter remaining in place, connected to the other parts. Because of the uneven balance, the tower began to rapidly tilt to one side.
Survivors reported feeling "the floor shaking" followed by a "intense explosion" that caused them to slip toward the glass panels. Because of the smooth flooring, nearly everyone was trapped directly on top of the glass panels. Those who were at the top fell to the ocean, where it is estimated that 15 to 20 fell. George Nicholson described watching the event as "nothing but a nightmare for an owner" and stated that "upon watching the first victims fell to their deaths, [he] screamed at the top of his lungs and collapsed". Two minutes later, advertising signs from the Sky Tower began to slip into the ocean as they were not attached to the floor, causing people to be hit and dragged down. One of them fell to the bottom floor and smashed through one of the main panels, killing at least four people and dragging five others with it. The staircases were the last part of the tower to collapse, as a result of poor structural design, collapsing and dragging at least six more people. Survivors of the event travel to a nearby island and were rescued by a group of other visitors. The middle section collapsed in seconds, crashing into the tower's still-standing bottom section before tilting further and falling into the ocean upside down.
Immediately following the collapse, over twenty rescue boats were dispatched to locate the trapped people, who were believed to be trapped in the upside down top section of the tower; however, after a peek inside, the information was confirmed to be false, with the exception of objects and parts from signs. President Mason "Scorpio" Smith, who was attending a meeting with the United Roblox Countries, was briefed on the incident and directed various lifeguards to the scene while informing members of the United Roblox Countries about the disaster. Following the discovery of various dead bodies, people from the islands jumped into the water in an attempt to "save those that were close to dying"; water conditions were unfavorable, and during the rescue process, over 100 workers were infected with a virus, three of whom died, while the rest recovered shortly after by June 17.
In fiction
- In Last Destination: Bloodlost, the Lobby Tower Collapse was featured in the starting scene as Iris Bellwood's premonition and how it all started, but the tower was still named as the Sky Tower; however, it is rather a restaurant instead of an overview landmark. The scene was shot in the Space Tower Restaurant in Bloxeattle; however, the collapse was shot in a CGI cinematic at the studio.
