On October 1, 2023, Robloxiapedia made an announcement about its intention to take legal action against a different wiki with the same name.

Background

Robloxiapedia, which is a Fandom wiki established on June 18, 2023, had only two active users, namely TomatoDaPwzer and Decryptables. At that time, the wiki consisted of just two pages, one of which served as the main page for the entire wiki. The content of the pages was focused on "Nations of the World" and "List of Important People". Moreover, two contributors had left the project in June and July of the same year, with one departing on the official launch date, June 19.

Incident

AmigoVilla2004, who had been inactive on the wiki since July, made his first post in almost two and a half months on October 1, 2023, in the Robloxiapedia's topic. He explained that he had accidentally logged into another wiki, Robloxiapedia, which had a similar name to the main wiki. AmigoVilla2004 intended to access the main wiki through the URL robloxcities.fandom.com but mistakenly typed in https://robloxiapedia.fandom.com. Shortly after the post, morphmeatball001 expressed dissatisfaction with the wiki, stating that the "Kingdom of Tomato" page had copied the article "Meatball Planet," which was actually named "Meatball Star," leading to their frustration. In response, ChikoritaTheRobloxian defended the wiki, claiming it was "not a total rip-off," but acknowledged the need to change the name of their content.

He promptly altered the primary wiki's name from Robloxiapedia to Robloxiapedia and announced their intention to take legal action against the wiki. This was the first instance of an attempt by Robloxiapedia to sue another wiki. The reason for this "attempt" was solely based on the fact that the name of the replica wiki closely resembled the original name of the main wiki. Two individuals expressed their anger on the other wiki, with LightningRBLX being one of them. LightningRBLX complained that Robloxiapedia "has more pages than" their own wiki. On October 4, all the pages were vandalized and changed to "Lamepedia" by user Morphmeatball001. This was the second incident of wiki vandalism and the second time a user from Robloxpedia had been involved in such vandalism. As of October 4, there had been no response from the other wiki due to both individuals being completely inactive, and the wiki has since been closed since December 2024. It now redirects to this encyclopedia due to the fact a second trademark infringement case effectively convinced Fandom staff that the domain name of robloxiapedia is being flagrantly abused.

Changes in the wiki

The first significant overhaul of the page occurred on October 3, 2023, when ChikoritaTheRobloxian declared that he would be redesigning the Robloxiapedia home page. However, he said that he was "aesthetically nice" and that he was really taken by the buttons on the other wiki's page. From 05:24 to 05:47 on the same day, the alteration was made.

Responses

Many reactions from the Robloxiapedia community were in response to the the incident. While some of them were outraged about the other wiki, the most were perplexed and concerned about this. MatthewPlayThrought mostly stated that there was no possibility that Robloxiapedia could genuinely "sue" the other wiki in his post "bro really gonna try to sue a another wiki." Le0011x, another user, concurred, calling it the "most ridiculous sh ever." The incident has received mixed reviews from people thus far.

Two years after this incident, it was revealed that the purpose of the encyclopedia was to store an alternative Roblox universe and was not intended to infringe trademarks, as originally feared by Robloxiapedia users in the past. Despite this, it is still referred to as a trademark incident as the domain name of the encyclopedia was identical to the name of the encyclopedia itself.
