Praça do Monumento (in Sebelstian: Anarajaq-Monumentilaì, Ro-English for Monument Square), is a metro station located on the Metropolitan (Line 2) line of the Nakoof Metro. It is located at the intersection of 6 May Avenue and Rua do Monumento in the Bloxrraia neighborhood of Nakoof. It is named for the Revolutionary Monument, also known as the Nakoof Triumphal Arch, and the small plaza in front of it. The station opened on May 26, 1984 as some of the first stations to open on the Metropolitan Line. Also nearby is an out of system transfer to the Nakoof Suburban Railway line C, which stops at Ilhas Telamonos station, located in the centre of Lanakila Mikala Square.
In 2025, it was the third busiest station on the metro network, seeing an average of 82,100 entries per day, primarily due to its location in one of the most popular areas of Nakoof.
History
Before the station existed, the site where the headhouse and the ticket office are currently located, was the site of the Bloxrraia Hotel, which in 1982, prior to the construction of the metro, was demolished and moved to a new property four blocks down. Two years later, the station opened for passengers, with the first train departing for passengers in the morning of May 26, 1984.
Layout
The station is located 25 meters underground (80 feet). There are four exits, labeled A-D. Access A goes to the corner of Avenida 6 de Maio (6 May Avenue) at Avenida Central (Central Avenue). Access B and C both lead to the north and central ends of the Lanakila Mikala Square nearby. Access D leads to Rua da Independência and Rua dos Montanhas. Each access feeds into the mezzanine located underground. Below it is the main platform, an island platform with two tracks, one in each direction.
Connections
Located 52 meters away, is the Ilhas Telamonos station on the Nakoof Suburban Railway’s line C. However, there is no free out of system transfer, as the suburban railway charges an extra fare more than the Metro. At Access A, there is a transfer to DFCbus Route 32, as well as TRC bus routes 52, 79, and 92C.
Services
The station is completely accessible, with elevators available to all sections of the station. The station was the first to receive full air conditioning in 1994, and is monitored by video cameras. A Nakoof Police Department satellite office is located in the station with patrol and deterrence units onsite.
