Controversies
In 1992, he removed his nephew, Tupua Smith, from ruling Cactus Island. A short time later, Tupua was poisoned. The opposition believes that the ruler was responsible for the poisoning, as Tupua himself believes.
The authors of such books as "Poison and Rule: The History of the Reign of King Noah I", "The King's Palace", and "The Nephew", accuse Noah of corruption and persecution of his opponents.
In 2018, Tupua Smith was poisoned again, for which the royal court may have been responsible. Although Tupua regained the princely title after the death of Noah I thanks to his cousin, a few years later, on December 3, 2022, after the publication of his book "Nephew", revealing some palace secrets, he was shot by an attacker who later testified that he had acted on the orders of the prime minister.
