Template:Episode updated V.2"Kamila's Attempt at Flying" is the nineteenth episode of the fifth season of the animated television series Lovely World and the 208th overall episode. The episode first aired in the United States on the children's programming network Children's Avast Television on March 14, 2015. It was directed by Ollie Stewart and written by Charlie Fisher. The series centers on the main character, Edward, and his friends Michael, Leo and Kamila, who embark on new adventures in search of sources to extend their "worlds", discover new species, and strive to achieve their own objectives.

In the episode, focusing on one of the main characters, Kamila reads a newspaper about two men who try to build a plane but crash, making her very interested and curious. Wanting to make one, Kamila began preparing her design until she came across a group of villagers who were attempting to build their own plane. Soon, Kamila began working with the villagers to create their plane, but during the test, one of the engines failed, forcing Kamila to handle the issue.

The episode was initially suggested by writer Charlie Fisher in 2014, when working on the fourth season episodes, who wanted to create an episode centered on Kamila because she had not had an episode of her own, up until "To The Woods" that aired during the development. The second episode that focused on her was created to help Kamila grow her anxieties and worries while also encouraging her to be bold. The plane design underwent multiple alterations, as did several aspects of the tale, before being completed two weeks before the air date. The episode received mostly positive reviews from critics, who praised Kamila's character development. The episode was watched by 1,058,554 million households and over 2,117,109 million viewers.

Plot

After reading a newspaper article about two guys who successfully built the first plane, Kamila, who is now bored, became interested in creating one herself. Thankfully, both guys survived the accident. Kamila began preparing the first design of the airplane since she did not want to face the same issues as the males. Originally, she intended the aircraft to be gigantic and large, but she eventually decided to make it smaller so that it would be easier to control. After designing the plane's layout, she decided to swap some resources for the engines at first.

However, when she realized how tough it would be to locate someone, she decided to take the easy way out and go to the Lovely World village, where she was able to discover a group of villagers bartering for plane parts after their own aircraft crashed and damaged. Kamila quickly becomes interested in their efforts and wishes to participate. Following that, the villagers and Kamila fix the plane, and Kamila gets his first look inside the villagers' plane, where she is surprised by how well the inside is kept.

Seeing how happy Kamila is, the villagers decided to give her control of the plane and teach her how to fly it. Kamila ultimately takeoff the plane, and the locals applaud her on. Then a complication arises: one of the engines fail when they are in the middle of the ocean. Kamila, who had used all of the fuel for one of the engines by accident, and the others start to fear, not wanting to crash and dies. Kamila, on the other hand, elected to make an emergency landing into the water after calming her and some of the others down, understanding there was no way they could return, before notifying the local residents and his friends about her plan. The jet eventually crashed into the water, and everyone survived. They are all rescued by a ship sent by the people, and Kamila initially feels horrified, blaming her for the engine's failing in the first place and not wanting to get yelled at by the group. However, the villagers and the group tell her that errors are a normal, important, and unavoidable part of the learning process, and that making them is okay. The episode ends with Kamila learning more about aircraft and how to be more cautious.

Production

Conception and writing

The idea of "Kamila's Attempt at Flying" began when writer Charlie Fisher, who was then working on the screenplays for the fourth season's episodes and had previously worked on his episode "The Television," began writing a draft about "cars." However, because he thought the premise was not working, Fisher came up with the idea of writing an episode for Kamila, one of the key characters from the television series, who had not yet had her own episode, despite the fact that all three had previously received their own episodes. He also sought to build the episode in order to further Kamila's character development, and began writing the first draft in April 2014, after ending work on "The Television". When writing the episode in its first draft, Fisher originally wanted Kamila to deal with one of her issues, anxiety, and he wrote several ideas that could have fit into the character development; however, none of the ideas were included and were instead scrapped for other ideas for future episodes.

One of those suggestions was for Kamila to become a babysitter and cope with a mischievous 12-year-old child, but that notion was abandoned since it did not work and was superfluous for Kamila's character. After at least a month of writing, Fisher cracks the tale by incorporating planes into the storyline, with Kamila attempting to fly a plane for the first time, and Edward playing a role in the story. However, the program was altered to be entirely centered on Kamila, with the gang emerging toward the conclusion of the broadcast to cheer on a teary Kamila. Fisher intended for the villagers to be "a cruel and uncaring people," which would hurt Kamila's feelings and make her question. In a previous script, the gang would have destroyed Kamila's plane, forcing her to start again.

A abandoned plot would have Kamila steal the villager's plane and crash it into their manufactured planes as a form of punishment. However, the notion of the villagers being the episode's villain was scrapped entirely, and the villagers were reworked as a group of individuals attempting to build their plane. After multiple rewrites, his script concentrated on Kamila, and the storyline revolved around her passion in aircraft and her attempt to build one, before meeting a group of villagers who offered to let her build and assist them in creating their plane. He pitched the screenplay to executives, who agreed and approved the episode, putting it into production officially. One of the inspirations for the episode came from Fisher's interest in planes, and when writing the episode's conflict, which Fisher described as "way different" because the original version would have had a hijacker attempting to crash the plane, Fisher wrote to have Kamila fly a plane for the first time. In an early version of the scene in which the villagers decide to let her fly, Kamila says, "Uh. Are you sure? I had no genuine interest in piloting a jet."

The line was modified such that Kamila stated, "Look, you all. I hadn't really flown an aircraft. "Yeah, I'm extremely sorry," he said, explaining that Kamila had never flown an aircraft. The final version of the battle evolved from an initial and early draft in which two engines failed, leading the plane to crash directly into the water. When drafting the scenario, Fisher originally intended for the plane's tail to rip out, but this was deleted. After Ollie Stewart joined the episode's production, he opted to assist Fisher in creating the dispute. Stewart took notes on the notion of the plane landing in the water while repeatedly previewing the episode. The design was inspired by an airplane that had to land in the water owing to engine failure. By December of that year, the script had been completed in its final form.

Designs

The plane design underwent multiple alterations before becoming the little plane seen in the episode. Fisher engaged artists Harrison Barker, Luca Lloyd, Ollie Harper, Adriel Vance, Isiah Trujillo, and Kenneth Carroll to create the plane. Originally, the plane was intended to be a large aircraft inspired by and created by Lemonde Airlines, Brookhaven Airlines, and Beta Airlines. Luca Lloyd researched plane design and sought to construct a plane inspired by Seed Airlines.

After the script was rewritten, the plane's design was simplified and the size was reduced to much smaller planes. As a result, various plans for larger planes were abandoned, and manufacture of a tiny plane started. Harrison Barker formally began attending aviation events and photographing smaller planes to gain a concept of the design. Isiah Trujillo opted to have a look inside an owner's plane. Finally, they developed a design based on light aircraft.
