Grindavik Airport was an airport in Grindavik, Robloxia. It was also in the Pilot Training Archipelago. It was the main airport for Grindavik. It served a few airlines with a few flights as well.

Background and History

Airport

The airport consists of one small terminal and three hangars with a Ground Crew Station and an Air Traffic Control Tower. Although this airport serves long haul flights, long haul planes have to be diligent and cautious while taking off and landing to/from Grindavik due to the runway’s length.

Runway Expansion

In 2008, the runway was expanded and was made longer. Long haul aircraft could safely land, although the runway was later rated as a B+ for Long Haul aircraft. The runway for Medium and Short Haul aircraft was rated as an A+.

Downfall of Grindavik Airport

Due to no profit, arrival/departure risks and less passengers, most airlines stopped flying to Grindavik from 2009-2017. During this period, 51 airlines stopped flying to Grindavik. The airlines that currently fly to Grindavik stayed.

RATA code change

On April 11, 2026, Grindavik Airport’s RATA code changed from GVK to GRV. The RCAO code is still the same.

Earthquake

Six days later, Grindavik Airport would be completely destroyed on 05:35:09, along with the rest of the surface and underground structures on the island itself.

Accidents and Incidents

  • Grindavik Express Flight 7612 (2009) - This flight was a scheduled flight from Sauthemptona to Grindavik. The aircraft crash landed in the runway due to an engine failure. Everyone survived.
  • Britain Airways Flight 2163 (2017) - Britain Airways 2163 was a flight from Grindavik to RoLondon-Gatwick. The aircraft overran the runway during takeoff due to a mistake in the Flight Augmentation Computer. Out of 207 passengers, 199 survived, while two flight attendants and five passengers died.
  • Skopelos Airways Flight 3 (2022) - Skopelos Airways Flight 3 was a flight from Skopelos to Grindavik with a stopover at Mellor. The aircraft crashed at Mount Grindavik due to pilot error. Everyone died.
  • All flights (2026) - All aircraft on the runways at 04:00:00 on that fateful April 17, 2026 day crashed due to a fissure opening up on the crust on the runways as a major consequence of the 5.0 foreshock. Spanning the runway's length, the fissure was 30 feet (32.66 studs) deep, posing a significant hazard to the airport's infrastructure as its runways are needed to land and takeoff planes. As a result, all flights not on the runways had to return back to their gates and remain grounded. Everyone survived when the fissures opened up.
