The February 16th Uprising is a revolutionary overthrow of the authoritarian regime under Miyamoto Hisamitsu.

The NJCP and NJLF forces, which had been growing in power, launched an attack that swiftly dismantled Hisamitsu’s government. The revolution resulted in the relocation of the capital to Tokyo and the establishment of an Anarchist Commune Government. However, instead of bringing peace, this led to a civil war between three factions—the NNJDF, far-right ultranationalists, and the far-left insurgents—creating a multi-factional conflict that continues to rage.

Background

By early 2025, Neo-Japan was a nation on the brink of collapse. Under the increasingly authoritarian rule of Miyamoto Hisamitsu, the government had transformed into a militarized ultranationalist regime, heavily reliant on organizations like the Greater Neo-Nippon Movement (GNNM) and the Emperor’s Sword Front (ESF) to maintain control. The state’s aggressive policies, combined with widespread economic mismanagement, led to growing civil unrest, with the Neo-Japanese Communist Party (NJCP) and Neo-Japanese Liberation Front (NJLF) gaining momentum as revolutionary forces.

At the same time, a pro-democracy resistance movement, the National Neo-Japanese Democratic Front (NNJDF), was forming, composed of former government officials, ex-military officers, and civil society activists. The NNJDF sought to establish a democratic republic and opposed both Hisamitsu’s ultranationalist rule and the growing power of the NJCP and NJLF.

By February 2025, Neo-Japan was effectively divided into three ideological camps:

  • The Hisamitsu government and ultranationalists, aiming to maintain authoritarian rule and restore imperialist ambitions.
  • The NJCP and NJLF, who sought to overthrow Hisamitsu and establish an anarchist-communist society.
  • The NNJDF, backed by the international community, advocating for a democratic republic.

The situation reached a breaking point on February 16, 2025, when leftist forces launched an all-out uprising, leading to the collapse of the Neo-Japanese government and the outbreak of civil war.

The Uprising (February 16, 2025)

In the early hours of February 16, 2025, coordinated NJCP and NJLF forces launched a massive, premeditated assault against government strongholds in Roghija, the capital of Neo-Japan. With support from sympathetic elements within the military and police, leftist insurgents swiftly gained control over key strategic locations.

Key Events of the Uprising:

  • Seizure of Government Buildings: NJLF insurgents stormed the Presidential Palace in Roghija, capturing or executing high-ranking officials.
  • Hisamitsu’s Escape: Facing overwhelming resistance, Miyamoto Hisamitsu fled the capital with his closest loyalists, retreating to a fortified military base in northern Neo-Japan.
  • Mass Desertions: Thousands of government soldiers defected, either joining the NJLF or escaping to neutral territory.
  • Street Battles and Executions: Leftist forces engaged in intense street battles with remaining ultranationalist forces. Members of the NJCP carried out mass executions of suspected government loyalists.
  • Fall of Roghija: By February 18, Hisamitsu’s government was declared dissolved, and the NJCP and NJLF proclaimed victory.

Establishment of the Anarchist Commune Government

Following the fall of Roghija, the NJCP and NJLF relocated the capital to Tokyo and declared the formation of a new Anarchist Commune Government. This radical transformation aimed to abolish hierarchical governance and replace it with decentralized, worker-controlled councils.

Policies of the New Government:

  • Abolition of State Institutions: All remnants of the previous government were dismantled.
  • Worker Self-Management: Factories, infrastructure, and public services were placed under control of worker syndicates.
  • Land Redistribution: Large landowners and former government officials had their assets seized and redistributed.
  • Dissolution of the Military: The NJLF sought to replace the traditional military with localized revolutionary militias.

However, rather than achieving stability, the rise of the anarchist commune triggered an all-out civil war as two opposing factions—the NNJDF and the remnants of Hisamitsu’s ultranationalists—refused to recognize the legitimacy of the new regime.

Outbreak of the Neo-Japanese Civil War

With Hisamitsu in exile and the NJLF in power, Neo-Japan quickly descended into a multi-front war.

Warring Factions:

  1. The NJCP & NJLF (Anarchist-Communist Forces): Controlled Tokyo and major cities, seeking to establish a decentralized, classless society.
  2. The NNJDF (Pro-Democracy Forces): Backed by international democracies, opposed both the leftist commune and ultranationalist remnants.
  3. The Ultranationalists (Hisamitsu Loyalists & Far-Right Militias): Retreated to rural strongholds, fighting to restore an authoritarian state.

Each side engaged in brutal warfare, utilizing guerrilla tactics, urban combat, and targeted assassinations. International forces provided military aid to the NNJDF, hoping to push for the establishment of a democratic republic.

Legacy and Ongoing Conflict

The February 16th Uprising marked the beginning of the most violent period in Neo-Japanese history. While it succeeded in toppling Miyamoto Hisamitsu, it failed to bring stability, instead plunging the nation into an ideological war with no clear end in sight.

The Neo-Japanese Civil War continues, with each faction vying for control over the nation’s future. The outcome remains uncertain, and the world watches as Neo-Japan fights to define its fate.
