Bootleg is an meme term originating from the Roternet that refers to unofficially produced products that were created without the copyright owners’ permission and are therefore considered to be a bootleg product, this term can also refer to a illegally produced product and/or a product that commits the crime of copyright infringement.
Most bootlegs originate from Luobu (though, it is worth noting that some bootlegs have been made in other countries.)
Legality of bootlegs
The legality of bootlegging has been questioned for almost 3 decades, some argue that bootlegging is good, while the vast majority of robloxians argue that it should be illegal because bootlegs often commit copyright infringement (such as stealing artwork and/or putting the character the bootleg plush is based off on the packaging)
When David "Builderman" Baszucki was the president of Robloxia, he actively supported bootlegs, which lead to a whole debate about the act of making bootlegging goods in Robloxia and various controversies surrounding it.
To this day, bootleg products are still very commonly sold in Robloxia on stores such as Bloxmart and BloxStreet.
