Alexander "Alex" Newton (June 3, 1954 - Present), not to be confused with Alex Newtron is a Robloxian educator and administrator who served as the founder and commissioner of the University System Of Robloxia (USR) from 2007 to 2019 as well as key partner of the Independent Revenue Group during its operation from 1989 until 1998. He's a somewhat controversial figure, credited for both the reform of the Robloxian Higher Education and the fall of small, independent College Boards as the USR became the standard for all schools.
Biography
Alexander Newton was born on June 3rd, 1954 in Retropolis, Rohio. He was an only child growing up and found enjoyment in schoolwork, specifically tutoring his peers. He attended Nexus High School in Retropolis, Rohio and graduated as the salutatorian.
In 1971, as a Junior in high school, Alex was recommend to become a teacher instead of becoming a finance major by one of his teachers who claimed he had "a knack for teaching". Alex eventually took this suggestion to heart, applying to the University Of Rohio to major in education. Newton graduated in Spring of 1978 with his master in education.
Early Career (1980-1989)
Alex quickly made a name for himself as a valuable consultant and quality professor, quickly finding employment at his alma mater as a finance professor, where he received high praise for his dedication to teaching students about financial literacy and how to make the most out of their lives. He was a keynotes speaker at the 1986 Roblox Educators Conference and was awarded Educator Of The Year in 1989. During his early years he also focused on highlighting the fraudulent practices in higher education finance.
The Nine Year Review (1989-1998)
From 1989-1998 the Independent Revenue Group (IRG) and other independent auditors began thoroughly investigating schools, especially after the Nathan Krill Embezzlement incident in 1987. During this period, the IRG consistently contacted Newton as well as other known financial educators for additional help and confirmation during their audits.
This period only contributed to his slow but steady rise to fame as Newton made his concerns for the education system more clear. He published The Audit: An Educators Guide to Robloxian University Finances in 1997 which became a bestseller.
When the IRG and other groups were ruled as violating the Robloxian Business Privacy Act of 1995, they shutdown their operations. Despite this, Newton's notoriety as a financially savvy person in regards to the Robloxian Higher Education System lived on and his name continued to grow over the next few years. In the spring of 1998, he was promoted to Provost of the University Of Rohio where he worked to improve the books.
Roblox University Group (2004-2019)
At the 2004 Roblox Educators Conference in Robloxia City, D.C., discussion regarding the establishment of two new universities (Roblox University and Bloxas Southern College) began. Newton famously suggested forming a new group to accredit these schools, rather than the "untrustworthy" local boards. After about a year of discussion both former president George W. Blox and newly elected president David Baszucki approved the creation of the Roblox University Group. As it was his idea, the REC voted to have Newton as the founder and commissioner.
During his time as commissioner, Newton focused heavily on improving the trust between students and schools. In a controversial move, Newton directly attacked the Bloxburg Valley State University System, because he believed them to be "the biggest offender of fraud and malpractice". Students in Bloxburg Valley faced harder admission procedures and many were unable to get financial aid due to Newton's attacks.
Newton's "deep cleanse" project ran during the first three years, where he aimed to completely reevaluate all schools under the RUG for financial and educational corrupt. By the end of this project, he had admitted 9 institutions which he declared to be "the cream of the higher educational crop". Interestingly, schools admitted by Newton saw a 8-12% increase in admissions within the next two terms, adding weight to his group and encouraging more schools to join.
On September 23, 2019, Newton announced his retirement and the RUG was absorbed into the Robloxian Department of Higher Education.
