Sneaks is a 2025 animated sports comedy film directed by Rob Edwards and Chris Jenkins from a script by Edwards. It is Edwards' feature directorial debut.
The film stars Anthony Mackie, Martin Lawrence, Swae Lee, Chloe Bailey, Macy Gray, Ella Mai, Mustard, Roddy Ricch, Quavo, Young Miko, Amirah Hall, Kiana Ledé, Bobbito Garcia, Sam Jay, Sky Brown, Rayssa Leal, Rico Rodriguez, Keith David, Chris Paul, and Laurence Fishburne.
The film was released on Sky Cinema in the United Kingdom on March 28, 2025, and was released theatrically in the United States on April 18. The film received mixed reviews from critics.
Storyline
In a world where the shoes are alive, Edson, a high schooler and basketball player, arrives at an event for a prize pair of sneakers, Ty and Maxine, that are designed for sports. Edson successfully won them, much to the frustration of the Collector, a famous shoe collector. Arriving at Edson's home, Maxine becomes thrilled to have an owner while Ty, who is paranoid and would rather prefer be inside the shoebox he was placed, couldn’t stand being wore and used for Edson's feet. The Collector soon intrudes Edson’s and stole Ty and Maxine. During the escape, Ty drops out the box and lands on a wire. His cries for help catches the attention of JB, an old and abandoned basketball shoe, who helps him through the city to find his sister. Meanwhile, Maxine arrives at the collector's compartment where she’s placed with all the Collector's other prized collected shoes that were used in previous sports. The Collector is called by his employer The Forger, who where's a lens like masked and plans to use Ty and Maxine for his own creation of shoes, persuading the Collector through blackmail of an event from the pass that involved the Collector.
As they tread through the city, Ty and JB meet up with JB's old friends. The two play basketball and win in exchange for information on where they could find Maxine. JB is dismayed to learn the shoe that would figure out is his ex-girlfriend, a high heel, who is the only one that would help them. As they arrived, JB asked Ty to borrow his gems to make a good impression on his ex. While observing the area, Ty becomes smitten with a female shoe. After being able to get the information they need, Ty and JB leave after the Collector and his dog arrive and mess up the place to get Ty. Maxine soon learns about the Forger and what he’s going to do with them.
During the wait out in the rain, JB comes across a dying shoe, who was cut in half by the Forger. He explains about the Forger what he does with the shoes' remains before succumbing to his injuries and splitting in half. Desperate to save his friend, JB takes Ty's place to spare him from his horrid fate. The shoes explain JB's life when he made his own lose a basketball game tournament in front of a crowd, including his own teammates and was thrown aside by his own in a fit of rage, leaving JB abandoned. Now seeing who JB was, Ty and the shoes race through the park to the Collector's place.
When the Collector arrives at his place, he finds the Forger has arrived and is holding Maxine. He discovers that JB had switched places with Ty and believes the Collector is trying to hold off his end of the deal. The Collector admits that he stole Ty and Maxine, much the Forger's amusement and adds that he also stole Edson's dreams. He posts the Collector’s past life and reveals that he was the basketball player that JB made him lost the game, also showing that he was JB's old owner. Everyone in the city watches the big reveal, including Edson and his mother. Maxine and the other shoes act out and attack the Forger until he was tied. The Collector removes the Forger's mask and takes a picture.
Later that Edson's game, the Collector returns Ty and Maxine so he could play the game properly. Later, a box of shoes were delivered that a girl's house.
