It was originally a Disney effect that debuted in Fun and Fancy Free in 1947. Later, other cartoon studios (like Warner Bros. and Bill Melendez Productions) acquired this sound effect.

In the summer of 1992, The Hollywood Edge added it to the Cartoon Trax Volume 1 library. In 2014, Sound Ideas took over to acquire it after the bankruptcy of The Hollywood Edge.

It is included in Robot Snortbounce Me LB014103 on Lon Bender's Wacky World of Robots, Widgets, and Gizmos.

Compared to the other "quick whistle zip by" variations included in Cartoon Trax, this version is not used as commonly in media but still appears occasionally in some productions.
