It's a shortened version of CRASH, WOOD - LARGE WOOD CRUNCH 01/02 and was originally a Disney sound effect that was used in various shorts and movies by Walt Disney, it debuted in 1947 with Fun and Fancy Free before Hanna-Barbera picked it up in 1959.
