The town is known to be a residential community, with a mix of permanent residents and seasonal visitors and the town has very low crime rates. While not a major tourist destination, Wilsett attracts many visitors due to its popular views, sceneries, local shops, and recreational spots along the island’s shores. The town is accessible by ferry from the mainland, near New River City. Although it was historically reliant on fishing and marine industries, Wilsett has evolved into a mixed-economy town, with small businesses, local markets, and a growing population from people who want to look for peaceful and natural places, especially islands. The town's infrastructure remains fine developed, with a small downtown area with essential services such as grocery stores, schools, healthcare facilities, and local government offices. Most of Wilsett’s residential areas consist of single-family homes, with a few small apartment complexes near the town center. In recent years, housing demand has slightly increased due to its low distance from larger North Bloxifornia cities like New River City and due to people wanting to seek for peaceful places to live in, rather than bustling cities. However, there is a shortage of land, so the government has implemented plans on preventing excessive development. The town contains streets which are clear and rocky, however there is not much traffic in the town due to the island being considerably small.
Etymology
The name Wilsett is believed to have originated from early settlers who arrived on the island during the early-19th century. According to historical records, the town was named after William Setterson, a merchant and shipbuilder who played a crucial role in developing the island's first docking infrastructure. Setterson, originally from a village close to New River City, established a small fishing community on the island, which later grew into a permanent settlement. Over time, the name" Will Setter’s Town" was informally shortened to Wilsett, the name slowly became more used and eventually became official in 1848.
