Westwood International Airport (IATA: WDX, ICAO: KWDX, FAA LID, WDX) is a city owned international airport located 10 nautical miles from the central business district of Westwood. It is a major hub for the Westwood Metropolitan Area and serves a variety of international, regional and domestic destinations. It is a hub for Seed Airlines.

History

Planning for a general aviation and international airport had started in 1934. In 1936, the city of Westwood bought a half of a square mile of area lining the Bloxumbia River and the Bloxumbia Slough. In 1942, the airport opened. Trans-Robloxian Airways used the hub. It was originally called Trans-Robloxian Airport, until it was changed to Westwood Airport in 1945, and changed again to Westwood International Airport in 1968. In 1979, Bad Year Tire, Inc. installed moving walkways throughout the airport.

People Mover

The airport has a people mover constructed by TesGroup Rail under a partnership with Bloxinghouse. In 1985, the system opened up using TesGroup TG-4400 trains. It connects the transport center to the parking garages and all terminals. It is mainly used by those who parked at the parking deck, patrons of the rental car center, and those arriving on public transit. It is also used for connecting flight passengers.

Facility

The airport consists of four terminals, (Terminals 1, 2, 3, 4). Terminals 1 and 2 are for domestic flights that are high budget. Terminal 3 is for domestic-flights that are low-budget (locals like to nickname Terminal 3 the Budget Terminal). Terminal 4 is for international flights. Since these terminals are separated from each other, to access between terminals, Robloxians have to use the people mover or the buses. Terminals 2 and the Budget Terminal are adjacent, only connected by a covered sidewalk. Each terminal has a drop off area and security checkpoints.
