Westport is a city known to be one of the most populated cities in Roregon. It serves as a major transportational, trade and port center in the region. Located on the western coast along Telamon Ocean, the city has been a center for trade, fishing, and marine industries, dating back to the late 18th century. Westport’s coastal position has also helped in its development, with its historic harbor playing a crucial role in trade.

As of the 2024 census, Westport has a recorded population of 97,143 residents, marking it as one of Roregon's largest western coastal cities. The city experienced gradual population growth through much of the 20th century, by the expansion of its shipping industry, fisheries, and later its tourism sector. Today, Westport remains an active center for cargo shipping, fish processing, ferry services, and maritime trade, with its docks and coastal industries employing thousands. The presence of Westport International Airport, a key regional air hub, has further boosted accessibility and commerce for the city in recent decades.

Aside from its economic importance, Westport is known for its waterfront views, coastal seafood markets, and annual maritime festivals, attracting thousands of visitors each year. The city motto, “The sea is our friend,” reflects the close connection between Westport’s community and its maritime environment. The city’s culture prominently features marine folklore, old sailor traditions, and festivals like the Westport Harbor Days, a summer event celebrating the city’s seafaring history. Though historically affected by disasters such as the 1935 Robloxia meteor disaster, Westport has remained a resilient and culturally rich city, balancing modern growth with its coastal heritage.

Etymology

The town of Westport got its name in the early 1800s when it was first settled by a group of traders and farmers from other parts of Robloxia. The settlers decided to call the town Westport because it was one of the westernmost river ports in the region at the time. The name is a combination of "West," for its location in western Roregon, and "port," because it was built near a small dock area along the Clarington River, where boats would stop to load and unload goods. Early records from 1825 show that the area was often called "West Landing" before the official name was chosen.

Over the years, the name Westport became well known among travelers and traders moving between the states of Kionne Republic and Roregon, or North Bloxifornia and Roregon. By the 1860s, Westport grew into a small but important stop for logging companies and merchants shipping supplies to nearby settlements. The town kept its name even as it expanded further inland, though the original river dock closed by the early 1900s when railway lines took over most transport. Today, the name Westport is remembered both for the town itself and as part of regional history, especially after the 1935 Robloxia meteor disaster, when the town was badly damaged but later rebuilt.

History

Westport was first settled in 1823 by a small group of Robloxian farmers, traders, and woodcutters looking for new land in the western part of Roregon. The town began as a tiny river settlement along the Clarington River, where boats carrying lumber, fish, and supplies would stop. At that time, there were only a few wooden cabins and a small dock. The early settlers built farms and fishing areas near the river, taking advantage of the fertile soil and steady water supply. By 1825, a trading post and a blacksmith shop were built, which helped the settlement grow as more families arrived. The area became popular with people moving west because it was one of the last safe stopping points before entering the hazardous wilderness between North Bloxifornia and Roregon.

During the mid-1800s, Westport became known for its lumber and fishing industries. Large amounts of timber were cut from nearby forests and shipped downriver to other towns. In 1863, a small railway line connected Westport to New Albion, which brought even more business to the town. By 1900, Westport had grown into a busy river port with schools, churches, and shops. However, after railroads replaced river transport in the early 20th century, the town’s importance as a trade center began to fade. The biggest event in Westport’s history happened during the 1935 Robloxia meteor disaster, when parts of the town were destroyed by meteor impacts and fires. Over 4,000 people died, and much of the town had to be rebuilt. Even after the disaster, Westport remained an important part of regional history and is still remembered today for its role in early Robloxian settlement.

In the years after the 1935 disaster, Westport struggled to recover but slowly rebuilt itself through the late 1930s and 1940s. Several historical landmarks were lost forever, but a few structures like the Old Clarington Dockhouse and the St. Alder’s Church Bell Tower survived the meteor impacts and remain standing today as memorial sites. During the early 1950s, Westport became known for hosting one of Roregon’s largest annual riverboat festivals, attracting visitors from nearby smaller settlements like Jackad and Johnver. The event featured boat races, outdoor markets, music, and traditional Robloxian food stalls along the riverfront. Another unusual event occurred in 1967 when a large mining accident happened at the nearby Clayridge Quarry, about 8 kilometers from Westport. A collapse inside one of the tunnels trapped 21 miners underground for nearly 36 hours, and rescue operations drew national attention. All miners survived, and the incident was later called the “Clayridge Miracle” in newspapers. Even though the town never fully regained its pre-1935 population or economy, Westport remained a tight-knit community known for its resilience and long history, with local schools including lessons about the town’s past in their regional studies curriculum.
