Waterview is a neighborhood in the city of Pleiades, Centell, which is a suburb of Centria. It was established as university housing in 1918, but begun to house non-university students starting in the 1980s. It is part of Pleiades City District 4. It gets its name from Waterview Drive, which is in turn named after University Lake, a small pond constructed by the University Of Halson in 1904.
History
The area that is now the neighborhood was formerly a forested area until the UHalson school board approved an expansion of student housing into the area, in the year 1916. Roblox War 1 delayed the development until 1917, when construction broke ground. The first students moved into the area in 1918. Its proximity to the campus made the housing market in the area extremely competitive, leading to a growing population. In 1944, the homes were sold mostly to private investors who managed the properties under contract from the school. Because the landlords “didn’t feel incentivized” to keep up the properties, according to a newspaper article from 1948, the area quickly became a ran down neighborhood. Starting in 1968, the University instead gave much of the land to real estate agents, who sold them to regular non-university clients, leading to the neighborhood’s revitalization in the early 1970s and 1980s. About 61% of the neighborhood’s residents are students, according to the census in 2010.
Transportation
The area is served by CenterConnect Rail Line 1 at the Waterview Station, which also is nearby a transit center of the same name. It also is served by campus shuttles which stop at the train station and go further into the campus area.
Dellner Way is the main thoroughfare through the neighborhood.
