Upton Kimberley Pelo (born November 14, 1947) was a Labubloxian musician who primarily worked among the genres of jazz and r&b. He had gained recognition during the 1970s for playing a wide range of instruments such as the piano, guitar and trumpet in various Labubloxian pieces of music such as Lenqoa (1975). Pelo has also gained prominence for being the brother of Montpelier Kimberley Pelo, the first president of Labublox.
Early life and education
Upton Kimberley Pelo was born on November 14, 1947, in Kampong Seri Pangkalan, Labublox. He developed an interest in music at an early age and was exposed to a variety of musical styles during his youth.
Musical career
By the late 1960s, he had begun performing locally, gradually gaining attention for his ability to play multiple instruments, including the piano, guitar, and trumpet.
During the 1970s, Pelo became active in the Labubloxian state wide media for his musical abilities. He worked mainly within jazz and rhythm and blues genres. He received wider recognition following his involvement in several recorded works, including Lenqoa (1975) and Havardoos (1973) which contributed to his reputation as a musician who could play diverse tunes. Although he maintained a relatively low public profile compared to other figures of the period, his work remained influential regionally and had gained some national recognition such as being featured in the Nel Show in an episode based on jazz.
In 1974, he composed the music for the Labubloxian national anthem, known as 'Tuhan Selamatkan Pulau-Pulau Kami', with his sister M.K. Pelo.
Personal life
Upton Kimberley Pelo was born to Montpelier Alphonse Pelo and Penelope Kimberley Pelo. He has a sister, Montpelier Kimberley Pelo, known to be the first president of Labublox.
