The Trial of Manila Lakl was a high-profile criminal case that started on October 22, 1984. The president of Vista Republic from 1984 to 1989, Dave Smith, arrested Manila Lakl and 18 others on charges of conspiracy and insurrection, focused on the 1971 coup, Vista Genocide, and violently supressing democratization movements from 1977 to 1984. The trial ended on January 18, 1987 after Lakl was sentenced to death. At the same time, an investigation into the corruption of the presidency was begun.
On January 18, 1987, judge Lanu Hops sentenced Lakl into death penalty, which led to Lakl finally being executed on June 30, 1987.
