Town of Robloxia is an inactive[1] town established in 1962 in the central plains of Bloxburg Valley located within Robloxia. It was designed by the urban planner 1Dev2. The town was designed to be a “sparse, but well connected” town, according to 1Dev2. Over the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, the Town of Robloxia expanded gradually, attracting families and businesses. By the 1980s, the population had peaked at approximately 730 residents, staying as a small town. The town had popular destinations, including the Roblox-Mart, a diner, a gas station, a small factory, and essential public services like a school, clinic, fire station, and police department.
The city became the site of a large mine in 1963, while much of the town was still under construction. Eventually, environmental concerns shut the mine down in 1975, but the chemical buildup underground in the mineshafts led to subsidence, which culminated in the town’s abandonment.
History
Founding and Early Development (1962–1970)
The idea for the Town of Robloxia was conceptualized around the early 1950s, when 1dev2, a young urban planner, had the desire to develop a small suburban village in the undeveloped central plains of Bloxburg Valley. He initially planned to build the town with commercial and residential areas only. He would later expand his ideas based on what citizens would need. The town's construction began in 1960 with the first homes and centers built in 1962 as planned.
During the initial time of development, 1Dev2 focused on attracting families and small businesses. By 1965, several significant establishments had opened, including a Roblox-Mart, a diner, and a gas station, which became essential services for the growing population. Due to lack of infrastructure, 1dev2 commenced the construction of a school, fire garage, and clinic in 1967. To help spur development, 1dev2 allowed the mines to stay, as long as they kept the main facilities away from the city center, but the mine tunnels eventually spread out further than intended.
Growth (1970–1980)
The 1970s were a period of gradual growth and a success in economy in the Town of Robloxia. Many families moved to the town at the time, causing the population to reach 340 in 1975.
Economic growth during this period was sped up by a factory established at the outskirts of the town. This also helped employ Robloxians, causing more to move into the town. Additionally, the town square, expanded to include a variety of small businesses such as a hardware store, a bookshop, and a bakery, improving the area. Community events would also happen in the town of Robloxia. Annual festivals would sometimes be held at the nearby pond, school sports games, and holiday parades. The construction of the Parkside Memorial in 1970, featuring a gold statue of 1dev2, was a popular tourist attraction.
In 1975, the mines were officially closed due to environmental concerns, and did not reopen. However, the construction of a factory saved many from unemployment.
The Incident and Decline (1980–1987)
In 1981, residents begun reporting unusual subsidence and strange odors. Later, in 1983, large cracks and later, sinkholes opened up in the main street area, forcing businesses out. Geologists originally suspected it was due to aging water mains, but almost all the infrastructure in the town was built from scratch. Later, in 1985, it would be discovered that the mine shafts had been slowly caving in due to chemicals eating away at the soil. In 1986, the town’s factory closed down due to safety violations, which lowered the town's economy. The economy continued to decline, as businesses began to leave and job opportunities lowered. In October 1985, 1dev2 suddenly disappeared from the public, and a new mayor had been elected. However, he left the town in 1987.
Abandonment (1987–2025)
Because there was no mayor, the county government took over administrative functions in 1988, issuing evacuation notices to much of the houses in the western and southern parts of the town. At this point, only 203 residents remained. However, citizens tried to incorporate their town in 1995, and successfully did so, and elected a mayor who served for the next three years, before leaving. After he left in 1998, the area officially became an “inactive town”, as it did not meet the requirements of a full town, but also did not meet the requirements of a Census Designated Place. At this point, much of the original town had been either destroyed, demolished, or abandoned. As of 2025, there is no resident who formally resides in the town, although there are several nearby villages.
Legacy
Paranormal Events
Around 2009, a video was posted on BloxTube on a group of friends exploring the town and strange occurrences take place. In 2017, a BloxTuber talked about his visit to the place hearing strange cries from a girl. Following the video, many others have also stated it. An year later, BloxTuber Matt Bloxy investigated the area, but did not find any evidence. Urban legends continue spreading about the town at the present.
Second Town
In 1997, another town, Second Town of Robloxia, was built which was a project by Harold F. Smith. The town was not too far away from the abandoned Town of Robloxia and managed to gain around 700 residents which was more than the original town. However, the project was left abandoned after a mass shooting just two years after.
Notes
- ↑ There are only around 10 residents within city limits, and the last mayor moved away in 2006, so it is governed by Bloxburg County.
