"Oh, Guess Who I Am" is a song written by Gerrard Bloxy and Moises Stone and composed by Roger Riley for the "Visiting Wither Town Again: Part 1" episode, as a part of the thirteenth and final season of the animated television series Robloxians. The song serves as an introduction to a new version of David, as it describes his strategy and exposes his identity to the listener, with the goal of taking over the island and "owning" the entire planet. The song is performed by voice actor Isaac Atkinson.
The song was included early in the episode's production as the writers tried to find out what the new version of David was, while Gerrard and Moises worked on David's primary song, "About Time". As the song developed, numerous changes were made due to the episode's heavily changed plot; additionally, Gerrard was concerned that the song was a "unnecessary addition," opining that "About Time" was a perfect song, but Stone asked him to keep the song to get feedback. After receiving excellent feedback, Gerrard decided that the music should remain in the episode, and extra work was done on it. "Oh, Guess Who I Am" received mostly positive reception from music critics.
Synopsis
The song is set after a scenario in which an inquisitive David, his "wife" Katherine, and a Fox companion animal overhear Willis and Cordelia Diaz discussing the robots and what makes them so wonderful. After they leave the room, David is thrilled and chats with Katherine before "randomly deciding to sing about his idea"; one of his distinguishing features from the other version of David is that he sings at random moments, frequently when he is really happy. The song's lyrics describe David and his wife's ambitions to take over the island and eventually dominate the globe; however, his wife chose to let David sing the plan for himself. Throughout the song, David frequently gestures to the Fox (who is said to represent the audience) to discuss his strategy. The fox becomes increasingly ecstatic as David begins to experiment with everything, further complicating his strategy.
Background and writing
Gerrard Bloxy wrote "Oh, Guess Who I Am", along with Moises Stone. The song was their second musical number that they produced for the season.
The thirteenth season has long been anticipated to have a "Broadway production concept" with a musical component. The decision to turn it into a musical was motivated by Angus's love of musical films and was intended to pay tribute to the music and legacy of the series while also bringing back memories of songs from the first seven seasons. After the show's cancellation was revealed, April 2, 2025, reports stated that artist Moises Stone would compose the songs for the season's episodes. A week later, on April 9, reports stated that Gerrard Bloxy would join the project. Starting in June 2024, the two of them began to wrote to the songs. After finishing "About Time," they started working on "Oh, Guess Who I Am." This song was an addition to the episode's development, which involved solving plot obstacles. Moises Stone worked with Gerrard to determine the tone of David's debut song and researched the character's background and evolution in order to generate a concept for the original major antagonist of the program.
For the last season, David was written as a villain, but with a completely new personality and as a person in general, owing to the authors' notion of giving David "one more opportunity" as a danger, as they had done in the previous season, and it was his first comeback in one and a half years. In an early version of the song, David was going to sing about "how he disliked the world as they despised him" and how "life was cruel and savage on him." As the episode's writing changed multiple times, so did the song, with Gerrard removing "the life is hard portion" and Stone devising a new concept for the song. As a result, the lyrics were altered to reflect the episode's tone and style. During the construction of a new demo, Gerrard Bloxy spoke with Stone about having David introduce himself to the audience and sing about why he was taking over the island. Previously, David sung about himself; but, with the entrance of his "wife" Katherine and a Fox companion animal, the lyrics were modified once again to sing about his wife and the animal that they share. The song initially called for them to sing one line, but it was discarded for unclear reasons.
Deleted reprise
During early production of the song, it was supposed to have a reprise for the "Visiting Wither Town Again: Part 2" episode toward the conclusion, where David and Katherine, like in previous drafts, were lamenting the loss of their Fox. Realizing that there was no possibility for repentance and that all they had done would remain unchanged, they decided that the best course of action was to commit suicide. David performs the song's last lyrics before shooting himself in the head (on-screen at first), while Katherine sobs the final lines "Guess Who I Am..... a monster..." before killing herself in the face (off-screen). The encore was deleted because a repeat of "About Time" felt more appropriate.
Critical reception
"Oh, Guess Who I Am" received mostly positive reception from music critics. The song was lauded for its catchiness and manner of lyrics, particularly at the climax of the musical sequence. The song was also lauded as a "great addition" and a "re-introduction" to a new version of David, a "past self of the original David that he was," and for detailing his strategy properly and tastefully. However, several elements of the song drew harsh response. Critics argued that David's wife Katherine, who did not sing until "About Time," should have "at least some involvement in the song" rather than David singing it alone. "Oh, Guess Who I Am" is ranked as one of the weakest songs in the season. Later, the song garnered far more good feedback than when it was first broadcast. The song was well received, similar to Randall Bloxon's tracks from the Off the Wall album, with some reviews describing it as a "smooth ballad."
