Midwood-Landsdowne is a future interchange station on the Robloxity Metro lines B and C. It is located in the historic Mount Landsdowne Tunnel, under the eponymous mountain. It is set to be the deepest station in North Bloxmerica, and in Robloxia, with a maximum depth of 246 feet underground. The reason for the depth is because the tunnel dates back to 1925 when certain advanced tunneling techniques did not exist yet, and for that reason, it slopes very frequently to take advantage of the best digging conditions. The station started construction before the announcement of the resumption of construction on the Robloxity Metro, in February 2021, when stabilizing of the tunnel begun in late 2020 (construction had begun in 2018 but was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and construction on line B did not happen until 2021). Access to the station will be provided by a set of high speed elevators which will descent from the mezzanine to the platform in only 22 seconds.
History
The tunnel was shut down for PRR trains in 2020 for maintenance purposes. The city voted 30-0 to extend the closure of the tunnel until further notice, pending the revival of the Metro project in 2021. The section of tunnel that is the station box was demolished from June 2021 to October 2021. From then on, for the next year, crews blasted out the platform area for the Line B, until December 2022, and in early 2023, the Line C platform area was constructed. From then on, work continued, with the construction of the platforms, mezzanine, and entrance hallways, until it was announced that construction had been completed in August 2024, after several delays.
