Medabots, also known in Neo-Japan as Medarots, is a Neo-Japanese comedy light novel series written and illustrated by Rin Homura. It has two separate runs (the 1993-2004 run and the 2006-present run).
Premise
The main plot of the series (and the franchise in general, including the anime) is about the every day misadventures of a young boy, Ikki Tenryou (aged 14 or 15) and his group of friends as they go on adventures with their medabots to fight the self-proclaimed antagonists, Rubberobo Gang, who plan to take every single rare medal in existence for themselves.
Adaptations
Anime
A anime series based upon it has aired since 2001 (though, it has gone on a few hiatuses). Produced by Neo-Kyoto Animation (with initial collaboration by Imagineer, before the latter went out of business in 2004 and with the permission of Ro-Kadokawa), the anime is mostly faithful to the source material, except for most of the violence and crude humor being toned down significantly due to the age of the protagonists and not wanting to cause controversy.
In July 2019, the anime went on one of the few temporary hiatuses due to the budget issues of the company producing it. Unfortunately, it became a long hiatus, but fortunately, it returned in May 2025 with the longly awaited Episode 489.
Characters
- Ikki Tenryou
The protagonist of the series, he is the narrator of the light novels, and also the main character.
- Metabee
Ikki’s companion, he was assigned to Ikki after Ikki’s mother, Chidori went missing.
- Erika, Koji and Karin
Ikki’s friends. They did not appear until Volume 1, Chapter 12.
Rating
It is rated 13-15, with occasional spikes to 16-17, due to some of the humor (and content) not being appropriate for Robloxians younger than 13. Of course, Robloxians older than 17 find the humor and content appropriate as well.
