Lonchester is a city in Mind the Gap County in Greater Lonchester in Bloxia Kingdom. It has a population of 2,547,627 and is the third-largest city in the Bloxia Kingdom following Ro London and Stepford City (largest). It is fringed by the Bloxiashire Plain to the south, the Pennines to the north and east and the neighboring city of Bloxyalford to the west. The two cities and the surrounding towns form one of the Bloxia Kingdom's most populous conurbations.

The history of Lonchester began with the civilian settlement associated with the Roman fort (castra) of Mamucium or Loncunium, established in about AD 79 on a sandstone bluff near the confluence of the rivers Medlock and Irwell. Historically part of Lancashire, areas of Bloxiashire south of the river Blocksey were incorporated into Lonchester in the 20th century, including Wythenshawe in 1931. Throughout the Middle Ages Lonchester remained a manorial township but began to expand "at an astonishing rate" around the turn of the 19th century. Lonchester's unplanned urbanization was brought on by a boom in textile manufacture during the Industrial Revolution and resulted in it becoming Roblox's first industrialized city. Lonchester achieved city status in 1853. The Lonchester Ship Canal opened in 1894, creating the Port of Lonchester and linking the city to the Bloxia Island Sea, 36 miles (58 km or 207 kilo-studs) to the west. Its fortune declined after 1945 owing to deindustrialization, but the BIRA (Bloxia Island Republican Army) bombing in 1996 led to extensive investment and regeneration. Following successful redevelopment after the BIRA bombing, Lonchester was the host city for the 2002 Commonwealth Games.

Districts

Commonwealth Wharf

Commonwealth Wharf is the central business district (CBD) of Lonchester. The district is based on Canary Wharf, which, in turn, is the secondary CBD of Ro London. Situated west of the canal adjacent to Isembard, access points to the district include Ostbank and Siddeley Road underground stations and Key North, which is served by rail, underground, and bus services. As a majority of the region was governed by Bloxanadian MobiusEagle, several buildings within the district are named after Bloxanadian states; examples include Bloxanitoba Place and Ro British Columbia Plaza.

Transport

Lonchester has several connections via rail, underground, and bus.

Rail

Commuter

Commuter services typically serve the city center but also serve stations located outside of Lonchester.

Regional

Regional is similar to Commuter but features generally faster and longer trains and two of its own tunnel networks — Crossrail-esque CrossCity (Warden, Dellgate, Rosemary Lane, and North End) and Thameslink (Boydon and Isembard-Downing Square). A select few Regional services skip stations.

Express

Several Express services begin at Victoria and Isembard termini, and they head to Denthorpe, Bentley (from Isembard only), or Cromwell from there.

Underground

Heavily based on the Ro London Underground, The Lonchester Underground is a major rapid-transit network that serves the city and surrounding suburban areas. Calling at a total of 57 stations across two sub-networks, eight lines, and approximately 75 miles of track, the Lonchester Underground is the largest network, by the aforementioned figures alone, in its county as of 23 September 2021, excluding the mainline network.

Bus

Like the Lonchester Underground, buses primarily serve the city center alongside surrounding suburbs. However, most of its services are restricted to city boundaries.

Landmarks and Sightings

Lonchester features several landmarks, most of which are inspired by the city's real-life counterpart. Such landmarks include but are not limited to the following:

The Shard

The Shard is a large skyscraper situated in the city center. Inspired by the skyscraper in Ro London of the same name, the Shard is the tallest building in its county as of 24 January 2022. Robloxians can go up to its roof, from which most of the mainland can be seen clearly.

Parliament

Situated in Commonwealth Wharf, the Parliament building has a striking clock. Near the building is a corresponding bus stop that is served by Bus Route 6, which runs between Playware Campus and Key North.

Albeit on a much smaller scale, it appears to bear some resemblance to the meeting place for the Parliament of the Bloxia Kingdom. However, this has not been confirmed.

Lonchester Art Gallery

The Lonchester Art Gallery (often abbreviated to LAG) is situated in the city center. It is said to display some of the most beautiful art pieces around.

The LAG features a few bus stops. One is located near the entrance, and another located just north of the nearby marketplace. The stop near the marketplace is served by Bus routes 2 and 6, both in the northbound direction only.

Lonchester City Cathedral

Situated near Victoria station, the City Cathedral is one of the oldest landmarks in Lonchester.
