Crew Members
There were 3 flight attendants and two pilots. The captain’s name was Oskar van Guss Johan, who had thirty years of flying experience, five years were in the BC-10. He was 53 at the time. He was among the survivors. The first officer was Meekeran de Van Berg. He had three years of flying experience, all on the BC-10. de Van Berg was also among the survivors. However, none of the flight attendants survived. They were supposed to arrive at Bloxsterdam at 04:45PM (GMT).
Takeoff from Mellor Airport
The aircraft took off from Mellor Airport heading to Bloxsterdam at 01:45PM (GRT) and started turning west for a u-turn towards Bloxsterdam. Things were uneventful until 02:01PM (GRT).
Shot by Greater Rockford Air Patrol
KL5476 flew through a no fly zone, which led the GRAP (Greater Rockford Air Patrol) to strike the flight with a missile. The flight was around 4,700FT. After they were shot, they suddenly went to 3,700FT. The aircraft began to stall. The captain said “Verdomme, dit gaat niet lukken! We redden het niet! (which is translated into Sh*t, f*ck this! We won’t make it!)”. Moments later, they slammed into the ground.
Impact
The aircraft slammed right on the runway threshold of Runway 25C of Greater Rockford Airport. The aircraft got on fire, and 110 people, 3 of which were injured escaped. All flights to Greater Rockford Airport were diverted to Mellor Airport. Flights that were departing were either cancelled or delayed.
Investigation and Aftermath
The Greater Rockford Air Patrol claimed responsibility for the crash claiming that they shot down the aircraft which was deemed true by witnesses. KLN was banned from flying to Greater Rockford and Bloxia Kingdom until 1992.
