The Foâgwó ( known in Ro-Portuguese as Foáguó) is a large complex serving as the official residence[1] of the President and General Secretary of the Republic[2], as well as serving as a fortress housing multiple residences of some of the country’s highest officials. Besides being a set of residences, it houses the National Armory, and the offices of the National Party. It is one of the most well known structures in Nakoof, being at the centre of the city since the late 1800s. Foâgwó is often used as a metonym for the executive government of Sebelsti, despite much of the executive government functions being relocated to nearby Port Sebelsti. Although much of the complex is walled, the main residence is not encircled by the wall.
The Foâgwó was constructed as a fortress during the early years of the colonial era under Ro-Portugal (1878-1918), and later served as a armoury under the Tovokian colonial administration (1918-1933).
Etymology
Although the main residence of the Foâgwó was originally constructed in 1871, shortly before the Ro-Portuguese colonial era, it was not given that name until 1933, after Sebelsti became independent. Its agreed that the name Foâgwó comes from Adionian , the language of Bloxjiado, whom the country’s first leader, learned after living in Massagaf in the years prior. It likely came from a borrowing of the word “Fóuguó” from that language, meaning fortress or stronghold.
History
- ↑ Although the Foâgwó is the official residence of the president, in recent years, he has only used it for a few days a year, preferring the Port Sebelsti Presidential Residence, and the primary office space in Port Sebelsti.
- ↑ While Sebelsti is officially a socialist state, it is ruled by the National Party, which positions itself as a centre-left party with some elements of socialism. Because of this, the president carries the title of the General Secretary, Commander In-Chief of the Sebelstian Armed Forces, and Director of The Legislature.
