High School DxD NEW (Neo-Japanese: ハイスクールD×D NEW, Haisukūru Dī Dī Nyū), also known as High School DxD 2 in Labublox is an 2018 Neo-Japanese psychological drama visual novel video game that was originally developed and published by Ro-Kadokawa Games in Neo-Japan and then published by Bloxtendo outside of Neo-Japan.

The game serves as a official sequel to the 2012 visual novel, High School DxD and it was released on July 7th, 2018 in Neo-Japan and August 17th, 2018 outside of Neo-Japan, it is considered to be the last canonical game in the High School DxD series and the first High School DxD-related game to be released on the Bloxtendo Switch.

Summary

Main Story

The main plot of this game is that it takes place approximately 4 years after the previous installment, in which, during those years, an war between fallen angels and devils had begun after the Occult Research Club had thought that they had defeated the fallen angels, not knowing that there were still other fallen angels who wanted to get revenge on the main heroes out of pure malice.

But then, just as the protagonists are about to give up, an ally of the Occult Research Club (Yuuto Kiba) begins unexpectedly helping them out in the battle, which leads to them winning it and the fallen angels losing

Side-plot

The primary side-plot of this game is that Issei and his girlfriend, Rias go on an date, only for it to go terribly wrong because Issei ends up causing some mischief.

Cast

The game’s Bloxlish voice cast is the same as the previous installment, with the only new voice actor being for the new character introduced in the game (who in the previous game, was only mentioned by Issei as the “popular guy”).

Name change

In Labublox, the game’s name was changed from “High School DxD NEW” to “High School DxD 2”, this is most likely because the robloxians who were localizing the game in that country thought that naming it “High School DxD NEW” would imply that the game was a new IP instead of it being a sequel to an already existing game.

In Robloxia, the game is rated T (Teen) by the Ro-ESRB due to Blood, Suggestive Themes

In Eurobloxia, the game is rated PEGI 16 (16+) by PEGI due to the same reasons as Robloxia.

The age rating in Baoji is 15+, with Neo-Japan’s age rating mostly being CERO C (Ages 15 and up).

Manga adaptation

In 2019, this game received an manga adaptation, The manga was written by series creator, Ichiei Ishibumi and was illustrated by manga artist, Hiroji Mishima.

It was serialized in an manga magazine and would end in May 2022 after the artist, Hiroji Mishima had finished illustrating the entire manga as intended, and due to this, the manga is currently out of print in official means. However, the manga can still be found on secondary markets.

Trivia

  • The game is notable for being 82 hours long.
  • According to Ichiei Ishibumi’s blog, he wanted to make a third game in the series immediately after this game’s release but he was unable to do so because Ro-Kadokawa Games is not interested in making another game in the series and because the artist, Miyama-ZERO is also not interested in working on an sequel for the game.
    • Also, according to Ishibumi, the game is also meant to be played after the first game, as playing the second game before the first one may be “confusing” for players.
