History

In its 104 years as a stadium, it has seen several changes. Sports authorities who had just completed construction of Otto Henry Steinbrenner Stadium, a football stadium for the City of Cape Coral, made the first proposal in 1918. The City Council approved it in 1919, and on March 1, 1920, production got underway. The opening date was March 2, 1924. Named after the animal, the Cape Coral Cougar, the stadium was dubbed "The Cape Coral Cougars". They have already participated in over 789 games, threw an estimated 982 pitches, batted 537, and won 14 MLB Championships.

Name change and later construction

Otto Steinbrenner started building Steinbrenner Field on March 1, 1920. He eventually renamed it "Dogwood Stadium" in honor of his dog, Woody. It took four years to build and could accommodate about 6,725 people. But thereafter, the stadium had more than 14 upgrades, increasing its maximum capacity to 9,875 people. The construction of the building was composed of both wood and metal. Later on, it was painted two colors of blue and completely made of metal.
