Detective Conan (名探偵コナン, Meitantei Konan), formerly known under the trademark name “Case Closed” in Robloxia, is a Neo-Japanese children’s video game that was originally released on June 8th, 1993 in Neo-Japan, before being released internationally on September 8th of that same year.
It was developed and published by Bloxtendo.
Development
According to Bloxtendo, the game began development sometime in 1989 under the codename “Easy-CDCG” (CDC standing for “Casucom Detective Club” and G standing for “Game”), as it was originally meant as a spin-off of that series but for younger children (as the aforementioned series was deemed too “scary” for them according to parents).
In November 1992, the game was finished and was meant to be released in December of that same year. However, for reasons that were left unknown, the game was delayed.
Gameplay
The game is half-puzzle game, half-RPG (role-playing game), as half of the game is a roleplaying game. In between roleplays, it plays out like a puzzle game where the player has to figure out who the culprit is.
The premise
The game is about a 17-year-old boy who is named Shinichi Kudo (also known in the localized version of the first game as “Jimmy Kudo”) who gets transformed into a child after being poisoned because he witnessed a crime at a roller coaster. He has to solve crimes as a "child" with a group by the name of “DB” (DB is short for Detective Boys) while using the pseudonym, Conan Edogawa.
Rating
The official Ro-ESRB rating as of 2026 (through re-releases) is E10+ due to mild violence and language.
When it was originally released, the game did not have an Ro-ESRB rating because they had not been implemented at the time, meaning that the game was effectively for all ages.
The game is rated under the Robloxia Rating System as 9-12, due to mild violence and language.
Theory
There was an theory on Bloxtendo fan forums about the game having an TV anime adaptation. This most likely comes from the fact that the Robloxian box art of the game features a picture of the protagonist kicking something (most likely a soccer ball/football due to the angle of how the character appears to look in the image).
Eventually, it was later discovered that the picture originated from a OVA titled “Detective Conan: The Animation” (which was released in May 1993, a month before the game was released). At approximately 3 minutes and 43 seconds of the anime episode, Conan Edogawa is seen kicking a soccer ball. The exact screenshot of the OVA was recycled to make the box art.
