The system on opening day in 1984
The Brookscity Aerial Tram is a 5,102 foot long aerial tramway line connecting Downtown Brookscity to Central Hill. While it is called a aerial tram, it is actually more like a suspended monorail, and doesn’t have a cable. It uses onboard propulsion by the now-defunct partnership with TesGroup and Bloxinghouse, TesGroup-Bloxinghouse. The system opened for business in 1984 closing in 1997-1999 after the train had issues starting up and was sent to TesGroup’s Seaboard City Plant where it stayed there.
Operation
A type 2 train leaving Maple Hill in 2023
The system operates from 10: 00 AM-6:00 PM on summer and fall weekdays, 9:15 AM-5:45 PM on spring and winter weekdays, request on Saturdays and only opens on special events on sundays. When it is Saturday, the call box is open up and allows passengers to request for the tram to come. On weekdays, there are 6 staff members that are present. 3 in the control room and 3 working standby in case they’re needed to manually take over operations, and making sure the system is secure. Trains move by linear induction. Magnets are embedded into the guideway, and a electromagneti is in the train. The train activates the electromagnet which causes the train to move towards the embedded magnets. The train receives electricity from a live rail in the beam. A maintenance facility with storage for up to four vehicles is located at the line’s southern terminus.
Rolling Stock
The system operates two series of rolling stock: the Type 1 series, which consists of 2 TesGroup-Bloxinghouse SM-2 trains manufactured in Seaboard City, North Bloxlina in 1982-1983. Only one Type 1 Series train is in normal use. The other type is the Type 2 Series, made by Stablox Rail in 2022-2024, which will replace the remaining Type 1 Series trains, although Type 2 trains are virtually the only ones used on a normal basis.
