Bloxburg Valley Federal Detention Facility is a prison located adjacent to the Seed Airlines Airport, on Bloxburg Air Force Base. It holds medium and maximum security prisoners. As of August 2025, the prison has a population of 1,032 inmates. The complex is made up of several facilities, separated by security class, with different blocks for male and female inmates.
History
The Bloxburg Central Prison had begun to reach overcapacity starting in the 1970s and early 1980s, and city officials wanted to build a new prison to accommodate medium and maximum security inmates so the Central Prison could be dedicated to pre-trial detention and minimum security inmates. In 1979 a plan was drafted to build a prison near Brookscity, and a plot of land was purchased that was far from the city center, and construction begun in 1983, and the first inmates were moved there in 1986.
