Anóahe Binái Oofi Bloxam; (born 17 April 1946) is a Sebelstian former politician, military officer, and judge who served as the 16th president of Sebelsti between 1996 and 2017 as well as serving as the chairman of the National Party of Sebelsti between 1983 and 1999 and again since 2019. He also serves as the Sebelsti Defence Force’s Head Strategic Officer since 2021. His term in office is often considered by political experts as one of the major driving forces behind the gradual de-isolation of Sebelsti.
Bloxam became the de facto head of state in 1996, after a coup overthrowing the military junta resulted in the disbandment of said government and the restoration of civilian rule. Despite this, many international observers considered Bloxam and his regime as “authoritarian” due to the high amount of censorship and lack of freedom during his rule.
Early life
Bloxam was born on 17 April 1946, in the town of Palmas de Nakolândia, in the Province of Nakólândia. He finished secondary school early, at age 16, and moved to San Bloxington to attend San Bloxington State University. He graduated in 1966 and remained for another four years in San Bloxington, earning his master’s degree in criminal justice. In 1969, he graduated from law school and became a lawyer in Southern Bloxburg Valley until 1974, when he left and joined the military police in Sebelsti.
Arrest and release
In the time between his military service, Bloxam held a position as a lawyer in Nakoof. In 1979, Bloxam was arrested and nearly lost his potition in the military for organizing an anti-government protest. In 1983, he was jailed a second time, but after spending around 3 months in prison, he was freed by the newly formed Transitional Government of Sebelsti and had his disbarment reversed and his dishonourable discharge revoked. He became a high-ranking general and found himself serving on the SDF’s court-martial committee. Later in 1983, he was unanimously elected as the chairman of the National Party and one of the members of the Sebelsti Reconstruction Commission.
Political career
Bloxam began his political career after being released from prison, later stating it was “the least he could do” for his party. Once he became the leader of the National Party, he begun an internal restructuring, quickly gaining favour among his party members. In the 1990s, he became increasingly disillusioned with the military junta that had been ruling the country. Although it is disputed whether Bloxam had any involvement with it, but the main sector of the National Party led a coup against the military government in 1996. Bloxam was near-unanimously selected by the National Congress to be the de-facto head of state in 1996.
