2040 (MMXC) was a common year starting on Monday of the Gregorian calendar, the 2040th year of the Common Era (CE) and Anno Domini (AD) designations, the 40th year of the 3rd millennium and the 21st century, and the first year of the 2040s decade.

The year 2040 had been described as the "last year in Robloxian history" by some newspapers and media outlets operating off-planet, such as Marblox, amid a global extinction event that occurred on December 21, 2040, caused by a comet-like projectile six miles in equatorial diameter colliding with the Robloxia Government Headquarters Three which wiped out most significant signatures of Robloxian life since the first Robloxians in BloxAfrica. However, the surviving Robloxians gradually relocated to other interstellar objects in the Blox System, most primarily Marblox and some asteroids of the Robloxian Asteroid Belt, in a migration that lasted ten years due to the fact Bloxpiter would not have formally established planetary colonies until the late 21st century.

The planet of Roblox after 2050 would not be visited by any Robloxian civilization until 2120, in which astronauts from Marblox woud visit the planet to find it was nothing like what they left behind. They would find that what had once been the rest of the world had become a lair for the gods The Scarlet King, Lord Goran, The Factory and others of The Old Gods. However North Bloxmerica and South Bloxmerica had remained free from powerful gods. They would reach what had been New Blockers City to find the city shockingly in a better state then when it was destroyed. They would quickly find the alien race known as the Kitarians of the Old Order had developed and rebuilt the city and the entire eastern seaboard of Robloxia and Bloxanada into a save haven for both Robloxians and themselves. The western seaboard of both continents however became a dictatorship of Kitarians of the New Order, using it for their own conquest though they did not pass the mountains as they see the new deserts as useless to them. The areas between the mountains in Robloxia would become a sandy and post-apocalyptic wasteland where survival was key. Between the issues of hard to obtain resources, the New Order Kitarians advancing further inland, and sandstorms have killed any attempt to repopulate the area.

Demographics

After reaching eight billion Robloxians in the end of 2039, which brought the population down to early 2020s levels, the Roblox population suffered a decline of 2 billion Robloxians since the end of 2034, when a peak of 10 billion Robloxians was recorded. Ever since then, an average of 400 million Robloxians have been killed by natural disasters annually. Because of the elevated death toll and the fact most young Robloxians were killed by disasters, average life expectancy fell by 20-40 years across the Roblox planet, with the average global life expectancy dropping by 30 years.

Deaths

With a total of 9.96 billion deaths throughout the course of the year, 2040 would become the first year in Robloxian history to have killed a billion Robloxians. Due to the fact modern Robloxian civilization collapsed, and death certificate companies being overloaded with work, death certificates were unable to be issued, preventing colleges and universities from finding out what were top causes of death in that particular calendar year. However, it is presumed that due to the increase of natural disasters and the extinction event occurring in this year, many Robloxians died from either a natural disaster or from the extinction event itself.

However, while death certificate companies were burdened by the quantity of the work they had to do, news companies were busy reporting shootings and other natural disasters. Gun violence reached a record low for nine consecutive months beginning in January, as there were no mass shootings in Roblox, even when gun legislation was absent. Those months also saw nine consecutively monthly record lows for number of Robloxians killed or injured by a shooter. However, a significant surge in gun violence and mass shootings began in October 2040, due the fact that RASA had discovered a six-mile comet in collision course with the planet of Roblox, which had triggered significantly elevated levels of social unrest and anxiety. Many shooters began to loot and shoot stores without an accompanying riot, which resulted in many store shelves emptied of survival equipment and essentials. Attempts to quell the looting by limiting how many Robloxians can enter the store at one time and how much food can a Robloxian buy at once were unsuccessful due to the fact that Robloxians created loopholes and eventually a black market for those goods.

Most Robloxian celebrities were killed in this year than any other due to the reasons mentioned above.

Conflicts

2040 was the fifth consecutive year without geopolitically tense conflicts.

Notable Instances of World Peace This Year:

World peace was finally declared by the United Roblox Countries by Robloxia's United Roblox Countries representative in April 2035, disasters prevented countries from attacking other countries and the fact countries helped other countries, even countries that have committed war atrocities against them according to Robloxia. Notable instances of geopolitical friendships included the Tovokian Republic helping Keviabloxia recover and Israblox and Palestine working together. Ro-Indi and Pakistain finally worked together. The peace in 2035 would become the first time in recorded Robloxian history it was declared.

Economy

One of the most concerning things in the past five years preluding to 2040 is the economy of the world. Despite world peace, the Gross Domestic Product of the entire Roblox world dropped another 3% in the first three quarters of the year, which continued the recession which had lasted beginning in the third quarter of 2035 (under the definition of two quarters of GDP loss) and was the steepest loss since 2035 (each year since 2035 until now had the GDP drop 1.5% in the first three quarters). Studies show that without world peace being implemented, the GDP losses would have reached 15-30% in the first three quarters due to the catastrophic nature of those disasters.

The recession in the economy turned into a full-blown depression in December 21, 2040. Known as "The Bite of Forty", in one day, the entire Gross Domestic Product of the entire Roblox world went to zero due to the extinction event. The severity of the loss would cause the entire Roblox world to default on its debt, which caused the greatest decrease in credit rating history in the Roblox planet. The S&P Credit Rating of the world went from AAA to D in one day.

Over the next ten years following 2040, free-market, market, and command economies in Roblox would turn into temporary barter economies. Gradually, the barter economies and the coincidence of wants led to a space program developed in 2045 called "Robloxian Exodus", which would transport Robloxians to Marblox and the nearby asteroids. Robloxian Exodus proved to be a very successful company, and by 2050, Robloxian Exodus completed its first mission of evacuating the entire Roblox planet. The Robloxian Exodus then remotely demolished its vestiges it left on former Roblox soil, and the planet would remain uncolonized until 2120.

Health

Shockingly, while 2040 was a year full of disasters, none of the disasters were biological pandemics, meaning that the flu was still here. The COVID-19 pandemic had been eradicated in 2029, making it the second disease to be eradicated completely, after smallpox. Ro-Bio was eradicated in 2030. KOV-35 was eradicated in 2031.

Environment and Weather

2040 was a catastrophic year for the environment of Roblox.

Hurricanes

According to RASA, a marine heat wave in the Bloxington Ocean from June to September have led to ocean temperatures reaching 55 degrees Centigrade (130 degrees Fahrenheit) in the peak of the heat wave on September 1st in the center of Gulf of Bloxico, with the average gulf temperature reaching 52 degrees Centigrade (125 degrees Fahrenheit) and the Bloxington Ocean, a relatively cool 49 degrees Centigrade (120 degrees Fahrenheit). Ocean temperatures had warmed 20 degrees Fahrenheit from those levels in the beginning of June. The storm relative helicity in the ocean has increased to astonishingly high levels, which lead to hurricanes lasting up to a month and creating massive wind shear and cold pools that would not recover until a month later. On August 16th, Hurricane Chikorita would become the first ever "hypercane" recorded in Robloxian history, reaching winds up to 500 miles per hour and peaking at 500 millibars. Such an event has not occurred since the extinction of the dinosaurs. Hurricane Chikorita would obliterate the Eastern Robloxian Seaboard on the first of September, including cities such as Miablox and reaching as far north as Bloxeenland. Storm surge would destroy the cities of Cape Coral and Minnecana, wiping them off the entire Robloxian map. The destruction of the Robloxian Hurricane Center in Miablox would result in no more warnings and watches, as well as no new information about the hurricane.

Winter Storms

2040 would be known as the year without a winter, a stark contrast to 1815's a year without a summer caused by the eruption of Mount Tambora. During meteorological and astronomical winter (December 1st - March 21st), no winter storms developed in Robloxia.

Heat Wave causes Severe Weather

Due to the marine heat wave, parcels of abnormally and apocalyptically hot Gulf of Bloxico moisture were able to push north, sparking very destructive thunderstorm activity, tornadoes, supercells, and derechos on the Tornado Alley area. Those severe weather systems were notable for breaking records and rivaling the thunderstorms in May, which is typically the most active month for tornadoes in the southern half Tornado Alley. Bloxas and Blocahoma would be devastated by those systems. One of the most destructive thunderstorms ever recorded in 2040 was a thunderstorm in Northern Blocahoma and Southern Ro Kansas that had 135 miles per hour winds. This thunderstorm formed on June 14, 2040, and was so powerful that it warranted the Robloxian Storm Prediction Center to create a new type of warning (Severe Thunderstorm Emergency). One of the hailstones that fell was 7.6 inches in diameter, breaking the record for the largest hailstone ever recorded. As it passed through the Ro-Kansas Turnpike, a violent outflow destroyed the toll booths on the corridor before it dissipated 10 kilometers west of Ro Arkansas City.

The strongest tornado on this year was a 450 miles per hour tornado recorded on July 3, 2040, in Retropolis, Rohio, breaking the record for the strongest tornado for the fourth consecutive year. Known as the "Twin Cities Attack", this tornado and an accompanying satellite tornado (which later curved northwest due to the influence of the tornado and headed towards Wadena) would reach a considerable width of 3.5 miles in the border between the Twin Cities and would remain stationary on the cities for an astounding 526 seconds, breaking the record for the widest tornado in the state. The Wadena tornado would later be chased by ChikoritaTheRobloxian, where winds would reach 270 miles per hour on the tornado, which slabbed Wadena but would leave its newly constructed high-rise buildings intact.

A stray bow of storms formed on August 16, 2040, northwest of Bloxita and would move southeast. On August 17th, 2040, the derecho would intensify rapidly in Sedan, Ro Kansas, and would reach 160 miles per hour in straight line winds. It entered Bartleville, Blocahoma, with 200 miles per hour winds and Skiatook with 210 miles per hour winds. By the time it entered Tulsa, winds would reach 225 miles per hour. Passing through Fort Smith, Shreveport, and Blox Rouge, it dissipated southeast of Blox Orleans on August 18, 2040.

A massive supercell resulting developed in the Robloxian South on September 13, 2040, which partially added insult to the injury. Tornadoes from the massive supercell reached violent intensities, exceeding 170 miles per hour in some cases in Balabama and Reorgia, and waterspouts in the Northern Gulf of Bloxico prevented travel. As the supercell moved east to the Robloxian Bloxington Ocean, it dissipated into many smaller cells which affected the Bloxington Ocean. None of those gained tropical wave status.

Culture

Architecture

2040 saw the destruction of many notable buildings in the country of Robloxia due to the aforementioned meteorological disasters and the extinction event. However, new buildings kept showing up. New skyscrapers, such as the Chikorita 152 apartment building, a 152-story building, were erected.

Media

Due to the apocalyptic nature of the year 2040, more fiction movies were cancelled in this year than any other year in Robloxian history. Some movies, rather announcing their cancellation publicly, had a silent cancellation, in which all the crew and cast members of the movie died and the movie is said to have been "cancelled". At one point in July 2040, the treasurers of the film industry went on strike, demanding that the film industry be stopped to prevent film companies from going insolvent and running out of potential thespians because at this point, every film could either be a boom, a bust, or a boondoggle. However, this is not to say that 2040 had no fiction movies. A long-anticipated remake of The Marbloxian finally premiered in Robloxian theaters on July 14, 2040, and would be notable as the only fictional movie created in 2040 and filmed on Marbloxian rust.

The fact 2040 was an apocalyptic year caused documentaries to skyrocket in number. Numerous documentaries and TV shows were made about every disaster that occurred in 2040 except for the extinction event. Robloxians liked those movies and started to appeal to other parts of the country. Soon after, movie theaters became known as documentary theaters. Robloxians would go to the theaters to watch a documentary about a disaster. The Roscars and other movie award ceremonies would have another ceremony in 2040 dedicated to the best documentary of the year. Meanwhile, Cinematica, a movie convention like the Sundance Film Festival in the real world, decided that this year, they would be having a documentary festival instead. However, the venue of Cinematica would be destroyed in the middle of the event by a catastrophic landslide in the nearby mountains. Fortunately, the host survived and declared that every documentary would be given an award. This was met with criticism from popular indie film creators.

The Extinction Event

The asteroid that would strike Brookhaven on December 21, 2040, was an asteroid capable of dispersing the damage done to Robloxia's biosphere into the entire planet's biosphere, as the spherical asteroid was five miles in equatorial diameter. This asteroid was moving at a velocity of 72 kilometers per second towards the Roblox planet, which is the highest possible speed for a projectile entering the planet.

The asteroid was determined to strike the planet on that day since October 2040, when it was first discovered by RASA scientists. Apparently, it appeared to be a comet. As soon as it was discovered, calculators calculating its trajectory found out that it was planning to impact the planet of Roblox. This led RASA to use the techniques learned from DART to try to identify the comet and try to intercept it, preventing the comet from going on a collision course with the planet of Roblox. While identification of the said asteroid was successful, intercepting the asteroid proved to be a futile effort as the asteroid's mass was way too large to perform an intercept.

The next planned attempt was to destroy the asteroid using nuclear weapons, but this was scrapped after one nuclear weapon was misfired and ended up on Bloxanada, enraging the nation. Fortunately, there was no retaliation, and Robloxia was forced to pay a hefty fine to Bloxanada. To avoid further misfires, the nuclear weapon option was scrapped.

An asteroid collision seemed inevitable, which caused a sudden decrease of Robloxians believing in atheistic religions as if there was a great awakening. Many Robloxians started to pray to their local deities wishing them a better life in the afterworld. Meanwhile, spaceships in RASA took Robloxians to Marblox, which is slated to be the next Roblox world.

In November 2040, a band of potential impact locations was calculated to meticulously high precision. It was then concluded that the asteroid was more likely to hit Brookhaven than any other city on the planet. Brookhaven attempted to take precautions regarding the collision event, but due to the presence of a government debt ceiling, they were not able to pay much currency to have the entire city shielded in a hemispherical dome. This led to the record increase of income taxation, from a 30% flat rate to all incomes made by Robloxians, to 90%. Due to the Laffer Curve, very little tax revenue was collected. In the end, Brookhaven decided to decrease the tax rate back to 30% after many Robloxians protested against the procedure of excessive taxation.

On December 2040, 20 days before the asteroid was scheduled to impact the Roblox planet, many pseudoscientific rituals were scheduled to occur on the coming weeks of December. Those pseudoscientific rituals were mostly targeted towards diverting the asteroid and rely on the fallacious belief that the asteroids would divert if a Livetopian covered with plants emerged and sold her flowers to the Topia Flower Hut.

On December 19, 2040, the President of Robloxia made a parting statement to the general Robloxian public, stating that the life spirit of Roblox would forever be ingrained in Robloxians, regardless of their current location. After this statement, which was televised globally, television channels stopped broadcasting.

December 20, 2040, was a day of prayer, silence, and mourning as the world of Roblox was about to witness an extinction event which was likened to the one that killed off the dinosaurs. For the Marbloxians, it was a day of celebration as many Robloxians were celebrating their new lives on another planet and that they did not have to suffer from the impacts of the collision and be worried about their past Roblox lives and losses. Flags were put at zero mast, which had never been done before in Robloxian history. On December 21, 2040, 12:21:12 AM, the asteroid collided with the government building of Robloxia, destroying it completely and effectively atomizing everything at that building. A fireball was created which vaporized the city of Brookhaven as copious amounts of infrared radiation irradiated the city. Eventually, the radiation caused fires that were large enough to be seen from space, which burned the entire Kionne Republic to the ground. The air blast, P-waves, and S-waves only compounded the disastrous impact, as trees in other states were destroyed by the wind and the tremors.

One of the tremors struck a fault line in southern Bloxburg Valley, which revitalized and invigorated the area’s fault and causing a large area to be ruptured as a consequence of a major earthquake on the region. The magnitude was estimated to be about 10 due to the fact the entire Western Robloxia region felt it. A large fissure opened up at the fault line, causing the entire region to fall apart and collapse to the Telamon Sea. Seismographs at this time were unable to measure the magnitude due to the fact the shaking rapidly intensified but was estimated to be a magnitude 11. The fault became more powerfully pronounced and started to sink the entire Western Robloxia area to the Telamon Sea.

Later, a mega tsunami approximately 2,000 meters tall slammed across the coast of Baoji, destroying virtually every civilization on the Western Telamon Sea. Not even the largest mountain range could prevent the tsunami from attenuating in amplitude, and the tsunami managed to reach Western Baoji.

This tsunami died after destroying the Eastern Bloxveldian civilizations.

Meanwhile, in South Bloxmerica, fault reinvigoration caused a 10.5 earthquake on the Bloxrazil area. This tsunami was very devastating and destroyed whatever was remaining on the Roblox planet.

Conspiracy Theories

The year 2040 was riddled from the conspiracy theory that on December 31, 2034, an unknown entity known as e251atirokihc was killed. Its cyan colored radioactive blood mixed with the mantle of Robloxia, which caused the sudden uprise in natural disasters that peaked on this year.
