Warner Bros. Animation is one of the animation divisions of Warner Bros. Being established in Burbank, California in 1980 by Hal Greer,the company has produced animated TV series and direct-to-video films, some based on franchises from DC Comics and other Warner franchises like Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies, Hanna-Barbera, Tom and Jerry and Mortal Kombat.
Its sister studio, Warner Bros. Pictures Animation (formerly Warner Animation Group) does theatrical animated films, while Warner Bros. Animation does made-for-television, direct-to-video and direct-to-streaming animated movies.
Warner Bros. Animation is the producer of the two animated direct-to-video Watchmen films. WB Animation was also involved in the 2016 animated R-rated direct-to-video film adaption of Batman: The Killing Joke, a Batman graphic novel written by Watchmen co-creator and co-writer, Alan Moore in 1988, after the Watchmen comic series eventually ended.
